Thanks, Ladies. Yeah, I wasn't ready for so many jungle themed things. I went on line afterwards, and found versions of all the things that scared me in calmer colors. I think that Target is going to be more our speed. And I'm accepting that bouncers aren't going to be pretty, but hopefully it will more than make up for aesthetic when it knocks LO out :)

Their registry suggestions was overwhelming to me. It was like the whole store! I think i registered for less than 1/3 of what they recommended. If you want to keep it simple just stay away from all the animals for everything. My sons' rooms are really simple and calm. And a lot of the loud looking toys are short lived like the bouncers and exersaucers and play mats. I'm trying it migrate all their toys into their play room as my youngest is starting to crawl. That way we can keep our family room less cluttered with colorful toys. Not there yet but hopefully by Summer!

I find Babies R Us is EXTREMELY overwhelming. The one nearest to us is so gross and always messy, poorly stocked, and poorly staffed. As for everything being "ugly," I never really noticed. Yeah, a forest-themed pack n play and monkey swing doesn't exactly match our decor, but I'm buying something baby will be in for a handful of months, not a long-lasting statement couch. I just don't have the money for the stylish stuff, as nice as it is.

You'll get over it. Before I got pregnant I swore ugly baby stuff wouldn't be all over my house, and now it looks like Babies R Us puked in my living room.

I think you can find cuter non bright stuff if you do your research and plan carefully. Things like a basic breathable bumper in solid colors.

I agree with the others. You have to pay a lot more for the cuter things and its only in your home a few months. Just not worth it to me.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of baby stuff. I think it's a trend that's dying out a bit. People are starting to realize baby doesn't care if its bouncer is monkey themed.

The snug a bunny line isn't too garish.

For the super young stuff, I sucked it up and got the ugly stuff, because that's what appeals to baby. LO wouldn't appreciate the lilac and sand color scheme for her nursery, so it's bright ass and babyish, for sure.

I did!! I tried to register at Babies R Us and freaked out! The store was way too large and overwhelming for me. I didn't care for a lot of the stuff I saw =/

Haha yup all bright primary colors contraptions that r huge! But ya they do grow out of everything so fast that it doesn't matter.

Are you talking baby gear? Bedding? What was ugly?

And yes, I was a bit of a snob too. I picked muted colors, solids and more "grown up" designs for our stuff because I don't care for bright-colored, "baby-ish" stuff. I wouldn't say that everything is ugly... just not my taste.

bahahha! I totally agree. But you definitely pay for the "prettier" stuff. I take heart that this stage is so short lived - we've already outgrown half of the ugly baby gear so I'm very meh about it.

Hubs and I stopped into a Babies R Us today to check out sizing on some commonplace items (I'm 4'10 and a weakling with a heart condition so I need to be able to reach/carry/etc). About 10 minutes in we ran out of there, completely freaked out.
Here goes my inner snob, the stuff was ugly and I didn't want it in my house. Neither did he. Are we total jerks? Did anyone else have this reaction?
