My LO stays at home with me and has had a runny nose for the past 2 months! I think they all pass it around to each other at play groups too :(

@Mrs. Jacks: Yes, logically, I suppose it makes sense that the exposure is increased and therefore, they're both more likely to catch even more junk. My boss asked me this week if something about twins makes them have a compromised immune system, which obviously isn't the case (to my knowledge anyway), but made me feel terrible that we've missed so much work that he was wandering that. :-/

My twin nephews were sick very frequently for the first 16ish months. Similar breastfeeding timeline to yours. They did a part-time nanny share, as still got sick often.

@Mrs. Blue: if you think about it, your two guys double your chances for exposures, so they each catch a different thing and then swap.

I felt that same way and would get so angry at how sick she stayed. I got fed up with hearing "it's good for their immune system" because I refused to believe being sick that much can be good for anyone.

I'm sorry you're going through it, but I did see a big difference after about a year...

I stay home with A but she still gets sick fairly regularly thanks to public transit and the playgroups I take her too, and she's EBF too, it hasn't helped her. I hope the babies feel better soon

I hear ya. This week was the first time in ages that G hadn't been sent home sick. She was sent home twice the week before that, and has had a perpetually runny nose + some sort of cough since she started almost 3 months ago. Sorry the baby dudes aren't feeling well! Daycare germs suck :(

T had a runny nose from 5 months - 14 months. Exactly the amount of time he was in daycare. We also had roseola, hand foot and mouth, 3 stomach bugs, and at least 4 other bouts of real fevers (over 102). He would literally have one healthy week per month. It stopped after I took him out of daycare and started staying home w/ him. BUT, now he goes to a daycare 1-2 times per week and in 4 months has only been sick once (and, I think it was from a plane ride, not daycare). I think in general, the daycare illnesses get better after the first year (ish). Sorry it's been so bad for you guys. I totally feel you!

@Mrs. Blue: I hate daycare. While we haven't had to keep M out that much, her first winter in daycare, she was sick the entire winter.

I think some kids handle it better than others. While our baby was only kept home a few times from fever/misery, a friend's child has been to daycare for three weeks of the three months she's been in daycare because of illness.

I sure hope it gets better soon but... I'm afraid that it may not get better until spring/summer. Stupid daycare. Stupid having to have both parents work. Stupid nannies being expensive!! - sorry, rant over.

How frustrating, I do think it might just be life at this stage. It might make you feel better to look at this link: http://primaryimmune.org/about-primary-immunodeficiencies/

I have a family member who does have a primary immunodeficiency and I think one of the major things that separates people with this issue from the rest of us is that usually it will escalate. A cold turns to pneumonia, ear infections are chronic, a single round of antibiotics barely takes the edge off infections. Certainly, it is something to chat with your doctor about if you are really concerned but an immune deficiency is pretty rare. The good news is that it can be checked with a simple blood test-- you just need a doctor who knows what to order and how to read it.

I would definitely pursue a smaller in home daycare. My LO goes to one (only part time) and she has just gotten her first sickness at age one... Hope you can find something that works for your babies soon!

Sorry :( It's hard to see your babies not well. If it makes you feel any better, I have two friends that have twins. Both SAHMs and one EBF. Their kids are sick ALL the time! What you're describing is their life. So, it's definitely nothing you've done wrong. I think siblings are just extra good at passing germs back and forth over and over again :)

My LO almost constantly has at least a runny nose (and she is almost a year and has been exclusively breastfed so don't beat yourself up thinking they would be healthier if you had breastfed longer). Unfortunately I think that's just the nature of the beast with day care. My LO is always still a ball of energy, eats well, and is developing right on schedule. So I wouldn't worry too much unless the colds are affecting them in other ways (they aren't gaining weight, etc).

Does/did anyone have a baby that is constantly sick and can never quite get well? For the last 4 months, we've probably had maybe 4-5 weeks of healthy babies. They constantly have at least cold like symptoms, and when they get sick, they're down for the count. Case in point: we are about to start week 4 of being sick. They've attended daycare 3 1/2 days in the last 3 weeks and were sent home twice after beig there for 1/2 a day. We've gone to the doctor and called the doctor multiple times and he thought it was just a really long virus that turned into infections. But they've been on antibiotics for several days and still aren't themselves. I just don't know what to think or do at this point. I get that during babies' first year in daycare there will be more sickness, but they just never seem to be able to stay healthy. I could only partially BF for 3 months, so they don't get any immunity from me, which makes me feel even worse. I can't help but wander if something is going on that's making them have a compromised immune system or are they just unlucky or is this more normal than I think??? We can't afford a nanny, but I'm almost at the point of thinking I need to find an in-home daycare so they're exposed to less kids or something. I just am worried about them, stressed out about all the missed work, and at a loss of what could be going on and what to do.

Did anyone have a baby that was sick constantly? Did they just have to grow out of it or did you make changes/find out something that made a difference?
