So apparently my husband is the only person in the world that suffers instead of benefits from humidifier use.... hopefully LO takes after me and not DH; eczema + allergies + asthma + nasal polyps = hard to live.

We use it all winter long because our house gets so dry in the cold weather. It helps with the daycare stuffies.

We use ours all the time. Our house is very dry, especially in the winter. DH and I sleep with a humidifier as well.

We use ours in the winter, once the humidity drops into the 30s or lower. I believe there's some science that shows viruses have an easier time surviving in dryer air, plus it just makes it easier to breathe when it's not so dry. We're in VA, so once it starts getting warmer, our humidity hovers in the 60s on a good day and way higher otherwise so we only use it if it's dry. I do think it helps.

We use it nightly in the winter since it's so dry! We put it on low normally but crank it up if DD has a cold. It helps!

We only use it when she has a cold, which so far has only happened during winter months. It helps prevent her snot from crusting up around her nose overnight.

We only use one when she has a cough. We both had a cold a few weeks ago and I know I felt a lot better sleeping in her room with the humidifier on- less sore throat and stuffy nose. But we only use it if she is congested or coughing.

We didn't start using one until DD was 6 months old and started getting winter colds. The pediatrician said the extra moisture in the air would help with her colds, especially when they included a cough. We'll quit using it again once winter is over.

When a young baby, or even a child, gets sick there is so little you can do for them. A cool mist humidifier is often recommended if they cough at night. I often add a few drops of eucalyptus oil as well because it's supposed to help with the cough. I don't know "scientifically/medically" why but I swear it helps both my girls. And also the winter air is so dry!

Why do babies "need" to sleep with humidifiers? "Need" is subjective, I know, but it's a common recommended tip on HB.

I sleep with a humidifier about 10-15 times a year when I have a sore throat due to dryness (I live in AZ), but DH can't sleep with w/ a humidifier because between his asthma and tendency towards nasal polyps, humidifiers make it hard for him to breathe. It gives him congestion and a headache. I don't want to subject LO to the same thing.....
