I never used a swing with DD1 but I am going to go buy one now. I realized DD2 likes to sleep being held so putting DD1 down for naps is impossible! I'm hoping the swing will solve that problem

So far we need:
-a crib mattress
-a double stroller
-a second (baby monitor) camera

I've saved everything else, so hopefully we don't need much more. :)

@matador84: Good to hear that others have re-used bottles too! It took a long time to find one L would take, and at first he would only take the super expensive kind, so I just bought a few and was able to switch him shortly after. So we have TT bottles, Dr Browns, and Medela Calma.

We reused our bottles, except she didn't take dr browns, so I got some tt's this week. We got a double stroller , second humidifier, clothing, everything else reused or friends let us borrow (crib, crib sheets)

@Mrs. Yoyo: @wonderstruck: I just won a bid on ebay last week on a second monitor! it was a second motorola (the 3.5" pan/zoom one) for $44! plus ship was 49.99. I was psyched. not even pregnant yet, but I use it in the living room to spy on my daughter if I have to get dinner going or do the dishes..she is TROUBLE lately!

this thread is making my seemingly short list grow. lol!

@Mrs. Yoyo: Our son hated pacis too, which is the problem...I don't know where any of his are anymore, he hated them and would spit them out and toss them aside to the point that we never had more than a few and they've all disappeared, haha.

And thank you for reminding me about needing a second monitor camera! Adding it to my list now.

Maybe it's gross but I saved some of the lesser-used pacis. I'm glad I did because the baby hates them. Otherwise new ones would have been money down the drain. And I don't think there's anything gross about reusing bottles.

My biggest must have was a video monitor with two cameras (I had just used an audio monitor with my first son). We got a double stroller but really don't need it much. And I splurged on a glider this time so I would have a place in the nursery to nurse and to hide from big brother. Worth it.

Otherwise everything was reusable, right down to clothes.

@wonderstruck: I was going to go straight to a twin bed on the floor lol (to save falling, and money!) but someone I know is transitioning her toddler to a twin bed anyway..so hey, why not ;)

I thought of, too, breast pump (hoping insurance will cover again) because I read that you aren't supposed to save between babies with an open-system. I have several bottles, but plan to EBF again, so I probably won't buy more!

and 2 wubbanubs for new baby!

@sorrycharlie: Our hopeful plan is to save the money on a toddler bed and just go straight to a twin bed with a mesh rail. I really don't want to buy another crib so I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be able to transition L and it won't be a problem! And your post reminded me of something else I want - a glider! I didn't get one last time, and it was one of the only things I really regretted not purchasing.

@pinkcupcake: Yep, that's pretty much exactly what I'm wondering about the bottles! I've been saving them just in case since I'm not sure.

We needed...

Dresser
Crib sheets
Crib mattress (LO #1 was in the toddler bed)
Lots of clothing since they are different genders
Swing
Beco Gemini carrier
Bottles
Breast pump parts (but I'm reusing them for my third)
Double stroller
Infant car seat (we got rid of ours)
Decor

fun thread!

we'll likely just get:
-double stroller
-infant carseat
-humidifier

we're being given a toddler bed and mattress, so DD's crib & mattress will go to the new baby. we'll also just move the glider from her room into the new baby's room!

Looks good! I don't think we will have to buy much if we have a second. Going off your list, I think the only things I wouldn't get are changing pad (we just change LO on the floor bc she's too tall for the changing table now), nursing pillow (I have a boppy and MBF already), and double stroller (LO hates the stroller).

I would need an infant insert for my ergo and a swing (we sold ours).

I have the same question about bottles... I saved all of ours and I feel like they'll be fine to use once I run them through the sterilizer but I can't help but be worried that because they're older and used, there are germs living in the plastic

The thread about must-have baby items made me start wondering what kind of stuff other people have needed when they have their second baby. I'm hoping to re-use a lot from my son - he'll only be 17 months when the baby is born, so all his gear is still quite new. How does this list look?

For second nursery:
- Dresser
- Bedding
- Lamp/night light
- Humidifier
- Changing pad and diaper pail (since they'll both be in diapers)
- New bedding, mobile, and decor (okay, not a must have, but I want it!)

Gear:
- Double stroller
- Breast pump (have one from the first baby, but I can get a new one from insurance, so why not.)
- Breastfeeding pillow (didn't use one last time but thinking it will be more necessary with 2 little ones)

And then the more obvious stuff like new pacifiers, bottles (maybe? do we need new bottles or just new nipples?), clothes to suit the different season this baby is being born in.
