@Clementine: thanks so much! I'll give it a try! I feel like my LO's eczema is mild so I just want to try to control before it gets worse.

@enjollah: Well, I've only tried the lotion and face wash from cetaphil and both have been mild and good for our baby's eczema. If your baby's eczema is really bad, my Ped suggested trying to calm it down by using Cortizone (1/%) cream 2x a day for 5 days then take a week break.

We actually do it 1x a day for like 2 days, and it clears up the eczema flare up right away. After that we just keep putting on lotion or sometimes I like using Aquaphor on particularly bad flare up spots.

We bath him every other day since he's always slathered in lotion, but the key for us is lukewarm bath water (not HOT and not WARM) because it can dry his skin out.

Best soap that my ped recommended is DOVE bar soap sensitive version, but again we just dilute his bath water with it.

I hope this helps!

@Clementine: oh okay thanks! Any product from the cetaphil line? I've tried lotioning his neck...I guess I have to give it some time. My LO started to grab at his neckline today...poor thing is probably itchy. Some other questions... Do you bathe your LO everyday? What soap do you use?

@enjollah: it can be anywhere, but i believe it's more prone to certain areas like neck, back of the knees, and the elbow/arm fold area. my LO has eczema on his tummy/chest too and it definitely flares up when he's hot.

@Clementine: for eczema can it be anywhere? Or are there common spots? My LO is about 4 months and he started to develop the red spots described in this post along with dry spots (neck and chest). DH has really bad eczema which has also been flairing up with the heat!

LO has a few whiteheads but it's mostly little red bumps all over her face and head. It doesn't look raw so I guess it's not eczema. I'm just not sure it's acne either.

Eczema is more red and raw looking like pp's have said. Another thing to consider is a food allergy. I thought DD had baby acne but she was actually allergic to milk proteins.

i could write book about this! according to our ped, sometimes babies can have a combo. i know our little guy did. if it's mostly on the face and very bumpy, i'd say prob more likely baby acne or cradle crap.

eczema tends to be really red, raw, and not bumpy kinda like a heat rash. at least that's been the case with our little guy.

Best thing to do either baby acne or ezcema is to keep their skin clean and nice and lubed up. I highly recommend Cetaphil lotion.

LO had baby acne on her face up to about a month to 6 weeks of age and it looked like little whiteheads (or close to that)...Bumpy little pimples. Later on, she developed eczema, which looks like very dry, flaky, red, raw skin.

How can you tell the difference between acne and eczema?

LO has had baby acne since the first few days. Over the past week or so it seems to have gotten worse. It's on the top of her head, eyebrows, cheeks, and neck. She gets really red, especially when she's upset. I feel like it may be due to or made worse by sleeping on our chests, or even where I hold her head for breastfeeding. She doesn't seem to have it anywhere else and it doesn't seem to itch her. Could it be eczema? How long does baby acne last?
