Ours did it and was diagnosed with reflux. It went away after we figured out she was tongue tied (causing the reflux), and had her revised, and then took her to 2 craniosachral therapy sessions.

this is so normal, and it turned into my LO arching his back every time I put him on his back or put him in something. Don't worry! It only gets worse--wait til he's older and stronger. Every time I put him in the stroller or change his diaper it's a wrestling match!

Thanks for posting this! My 4.5 month old does it too...and I agree with others that it seems to be when wanting to roll over, when tired, when done eating, or for fun. I discussed with the doctor at her 4 month appt who said the baby looked great and he wasn't at all concerned.

I think it's normal to be anxious! But my baby (5 months) does this and has been since the beginning. He usually does it when he's done with being held or eating.

My three month old does this as well. I just assumed it was an exerting their independence thing, and yet another "because she can".

@Fronkinzankinsbride: that's what I thought but I'm a paranoid person. I've been in counseling for anxiety disorder and hypochondria and my worry has transferred from my health to my son's.

Sounds like normal reflexes. I think if it were one of the other possibilities (Brain damage, Opisthotonus, CP) you would have other signs.

Xander does this ALL THE TIME! Sometimes he just wants to be in a different position - sometimes he's letting me know he's done eating - sometimes he's just trying to roll over or something! I think it's normal!

LO used to do this a lot. Usually during diaper changes, she would just jerk and stiffen up like a board. She never cried and didn't seem in pain. She eventually just stopped doing it.

Hi ladies. My son is three months and he has been doing this thing where he stiffens up like a board. He does it in the swing, bouncer, bath, on the floor, and when I'm trying to out him in his car seat. He doesn't cry when he's doing it usually. He's on Zantac for reflux.

I made the mistake of googling it, and I got all variety of horrifying diagnoses. Brain damage, Opisthotonus, CP. So now I'm freaking out. This is my personality...I always assume the worst. My husband always gets mad at me when I consult dr. Google but I can't help myself.

Any thought or experiences with this?
