I highly recommend Ina May's Guide to Childbirth for anyone who is considering having a natural birth. The second half of the book is a bit preachy, but the first half is all positive birth stories...you rarely get such a collection of positive stories, so I think it is a great resource and used it for both of my pregnancies.

I also recommend Operating Instructions: A Journal of My Son's First Year, by Anne Lamotte. It is a phenomenal memoir about, go figure, her son's first year, and was the first book I had ever read where the mom wasn't too thrilled about every last thing her kid did. It was nice to read that so when I suffered from mild depression after my first child, I knew I wasn't alone.

I would add the Happiest Baby on the Block along with sleep and breast feeding books. Sure it's nice to know what is going on during pregnancy but I think the focus should be on what to do once the baby has arrived.

I have What to Expect when you're expecting and the Everything Pregnancy Book.
I find most of what they tell me, I've already read in my weekly emails from various sites, but they can be useful.

I read 7 baby/pregnancy books. The ones I liked:

You: Having a Baby:: Co-written by Dr. Oz. I'm a geek and this book did a really good job explaining the whys as well as the whats.

Baby 411:: Great info for baby's 1st year and nicely organized like other 411 books.

I would also recommend reading a sleep book (I read Dr. Ferber's "Solve Your Child's Sleep Problem") and a breastfeeding book (or research it online).

BTW, I also loved Baby Bargains :)

I haven't bought any and I'm not sure if I plan to. I have so many fantastic female resources who tell me how it is, that I think I might be all set.

Did you read any books to get ready for baby? I really liked Expecting 411 and Baby Bargains but I probably won't finish What To Expect When You are Expecting.

How about you?
