The second half of the book is a bit preachy, but the first half is all positive birth stories...you rarely get such a collection of positive stories, so I think it is a great resource and used it for both of my pregnancies.</p> <p>I also recommend Operating Instructions: A Journal of My Son's First Year, by Anne Lamotte. It is a phenomenal memoir about, go figure, her son's first year, and was the first book I had ever read where the mom wasn't too thrilled about every last thing her kid did. The ones I liked:</p> <p>You: Having a Baby:: Co-written by Dr. Oz.
