That's plenty early, don't worry yourself! My baby was transverse for quite a while and didn't officially settle head-down/LOA until about 32w. The babies are still so small then, it's easy to move around.

(I say that, but I totally had a minor freakout about baby being in transverse position around 30w. So speaking from my personal experience...you're probably worrying for nothing, haha!)

My midwives use palpation to determine the positioning of the baby, and listen for the heartbeat after they've determined the position. I keep track myself by belly mapping, hiccups, and wiggles/kicks.

I was transverse (like breech) at 30 weeks and when we checked at 31 weeks, she'd flipped to head down. It can happen.

My friend's baby was determined to be breech at her 36 week appt. They did everything they could to turn her/let her turn on her own (including accupuncture and trying to turn her from the outside) and when she was 39? Weeks they finally scheduled her C section.
I think most times they wait quite a while to make sure baby won't turn on its own. You have SO much time- your baby will probably flip and spin a lot in the next few weeks because they still have tons of room to move at this point!

LO was breech at 28 weeks and turned by my 30 week appointment. I didn't even feel her turn. You have plenty of time so don't worry too much until you have to!

Mine was breech—we did moxabustion, acupuncture, Webster technique, all to no avail. They ultrasound you and then I had a scheduled c-section. I chose not to do a ECV. But you have a while.

@ladyfingers: My Baby turned herself breech at about 34-35 weeks and I had a successful External Cephalic Version performed at 38 weeks so I was able to avoid a scheduled c-section (I also had an anterior placenta and baby was extended breech).

You still have plenty of time for Baby to turn but if you end up with a breech baby, although being slightly uncomfortable my ECV wasn't painful at all and even though I wasn't great case, it was definitely worth a shot to have Baby manually turned!

Feel free to message me if you end up wanting any more info about the ECV.

My LO was breech at my 32 week appt, not sure when she finally turned but she did! Do not worry at all, its VERY normal for them to be breech until the last few weeks.

spinningbabies.com

has techniques and exercises you can do at home to help spin a baby. The Doula that taught out child birthing classes swore by it.

At the least I used it to map my baby and figure out what body parts were where!

Mine is breech too! It'll be interesting to see if/when either or both of ours turn and when since we are a few weeks apart! I have always felt kicks way low, and definitely lots in my bladder. Sometimes I have an urge to pee so intense that I'm stunned - but then it's gone, lol. I have this weird feeling that she's not going to turn for me. Maybe I'm just trying to mentally prepare for a c-section, I don't know. I would think we'll be able to tell if they turn, as they are getting bigger in there but my doctor said they'll just check as it gets closer. IDK if that means U/S or manually?

@ladyfingers: I think mine has been breech the whole time... as far as I know she hasn't turned yet and I'm 40 weeks today. I chose not to have the manual turning procedure but, I did try moxa sticks which are supposed to be very good. I stopped using them in the end as I couldn't stand the smell, but might be worth a try?

@ladyfingers: Harper was definitely breech until around 30 weeks. She would hiccup above my belly button... Her head squashed my lungs and I literally had to prop myself up at night on like 400 pillows because if I laid down, she went into my diaphragm and I honestly got scared about how little air I could breathe in. One day, she moved around a TON, and I noticed when I laid down to read in bed before propping up that I was not suffocating. I could breathe! The next time I had a dr's appt, the dr felt all around and agreed with me that she was flipped. It's been confirmed with u/s now, but you definitely have plenty of time for baby to flip:) Hopefully it will happen soon so it'll be a lot more comfortable!

There's still quite a bit of time for him to turn. My doctors could tell when LO had turned by feeling my belly. They could feel all of her body parts, but I had no clue what was going on in there :) Cat dog stretches can help get him locked into position!

DD was breech until 32 weeks (or thereabouts). They could tell her position by where her heartbeat showed up, and then I had a confirmation ultrasound at 36 weeks to confirm that she had flipped.

I think the chiropractic procedure is called the Webster's technique? It's supposed to have a good success rating, if you end up getting to that point.

Mine was breeched but she turned in the last month. They did an ultrasound at around 36 weeks to see where she was at. Sometimes it's hard to tell because of the way they're moving. I did tons of yoga in hopes that downward dog would help her flip!

You have plenty of time. :)

I feel like I already know the answer to this question and I know I'm being paranoid, but that's just me. I've felt most of the baby's movement down low lately, to the point where the last couple of days he's literally kicking me in the crotch. Today at the doctor, the midwife heard his heartbeat in the upper left of my belly. They didn't say anything, and I'm only 27 weeks, but I'm assuming he's currently breech. Is that pretty common early on and if you know your baby was breech in the second trimester or early 3rd, did they turn at a certain point?

I guess I just need some reassurance :)

And then also... if your baby is breech, how can they tell once you get close to labor? Feeling around? Heartbeat? In other words, how do they know if you need to schedule a c-section -- or do they not, and it ends up being an emergency c? I ask this because my chiropractor has mentioned that there is a gentle technique for turning the baby, but I don't know how you would know, when you get closer to your EDD, that it's necessary to do. Obviously I'd rather try that than have a C-section ;)

Anyway... I feel silly asking all this at 27 weeks, but I just though it couldn't hurt!
