@stiletto_mom: I loved our Ktan. I used until LO was about 4-5 month, but then as he got heavier it would stretch out and we'd both get uncomfortable. Super easy to use! I haven't used the other wraps, so can't compare to those.

@stiletto_mom: If you get the k'tan, I would personally recommend not washing it or taking off the tags until you try it on with the baby in it. It's fast enough to wash and dry once you are sure you like it, but since it ended up not working out for me, I'm glad I was still able to return it. And the only reason I hadn't washed it yet was I wasn't sure of the color (team green, but if I had a girl I wanted to get the purple instead :) )

I'm a Tula fan also. It has a longer carrying capacity than an Ergo, and a much better resale also. And they're cute :p

I used the Moby in the beginning, but I wish I had gotten a wrap or ring sling.

I definitely suggest finding a Babywearing International group in your area - they usually have a stash of carriers (both wraps and soft structured), so you can see what fits best.

I love a ring sling (maya wrap or sakura bloom are my favorites) for newborns and for quick trips in and out of the car (e.g., grocery store, pharmacy, etc.) for a bigger baby once we ditched the infant carrier and got her in the convertible car seat. They're super easy to use.

I love our beco gemini for longer wearing, traveling, and for doing chores around the house. Love that you can use for a newborn without an insert and it's super easy to use. My DH doesn't baby wear, but if he did it would fit him as well.

You really should try to get to a store that will let you try a bunch on and see what fits best. The gemini fit my frame better than an ergo or tula did.

Appreciate the input!! I may adjust mine to Ktan and Tula (possibly Ergo as a third backup). I choose Ktan because I am very petite so I anticipate my baby will be small as well. That and the chance that I will be the primary baby wearer at the beginning. Tula because it seems adjustable betwrrn me and DH.

@stiletto_mom: I'm happy with the way I did it! I would've gotten a Tula instead of an Ergo right off the bat because I like the fit better, but I was really happy to start with a ring sling. For baby #2, I am going to try one of the Wrapsody wraps Mrs Twine recommended, because if she likes them, they're good stuff! :)

@stiletto_mom: You can do back carries with an Ergo when baby has good head control and is sitting unassisted. You can't back carry with a K'tan, and the Bjorn's recommendation for back carries is 1 year.

Tulas are fabulous carriers! They are probably my favorite soft structured carrier. I would pick it over the Bjorn hands down because it has a more ergonomic fit in the seat for baby, and it's more comfortable on the wearer's back due to the baby's position. A Tula would be perfectly interchangeable between you and your husband. You would just need a receiving blanket under baby's bottom in the newborn days, or a Tula infant insert. I have two of them (standard size and toddler size) in my own stash, and the owner is a babywearing mom herself.

A mei tai has the body of a structured carrier, and the straps like a wrap OR regular straps that tie instead of buckle. They are versatile, pretty much one size fits all, and come in all price points. You can do front carries and back carries in them, and you and your husband could switch back and forth with ease! I use a mei tai a lot these days.

Oh, I was also going to ask, can you wear the baby front and back with the Ktan, Ergo and Bjorn?

@Boheme: I like the look of the Tula, why would you choose it over Bjorn?

Also, is the Mei Tai more of a wrap or a carrier? Would it work for newborns?

Is the Tula and Mei Tai interchangable between parents?

@Foodnerd81: it's made out of a parachute-type material. One of my friends uses it as her all the time carrier! I think the Boba wrap is a little thicker and more solid than the Moby...It seems to have a higher weight tolerance.

@simplyfelicity: It's purely personal preference! If you can try them both on at a local babywearing group or a retailer, you can get a good idea of which one you like best. I really like the safety buckle function of the Beco, but I like the foot stirrups on some models of the Boba. Both are great products!

I have used a Moby and Ergo Performance carrier. I would have just gotten the Ergo and used blankets rolled under baby's bum instead of buying two carriers, if I could do it over again. The Ergo Performance is fairly lightweight and flexible and it is designed to be cooler. Good luck with your decision!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I like both forms of Bobas! They are great carriers. The Boba air is a super cool travel carrier - it folds up teeny tiny in your luggage! And their stretchy wrap hugs your baby close to you, but is also very sturdy. I am a fan!

We have a K'Tan (in my size), and Ergo and Baby Bjorn. The K'tan was/is awesome, esp for tiny babies. Love the Ergo as it's interchangeable with DH and I. It also lessens pressure on the back (this is good for DH who has back problems) so we can wear DS a lot longer than the Bjorn and K'tan. The Ergo also is easier to put on. We were gifted the Bjorn and don't really like it.

I got the k'tan and ergo for LO1. The k'tan didn't get used very often and overall I wasn't the biggest fan. I liked the ergo, but in our warm climate we couldn't use it much during the summer and then she was pretty independent after that. This time I'm getting a solly baby wrap to try.

@stiletto_mom: It sounds like one benefit of the ktan is that you'll be the only one who can wear baby. I had a lot of friends/family ask if they could wear baby around (if we went for a walk or out to dinner). I usually said no, because I was struggling with BFing and wanted as much contact with her as possible. That ktan would be a good excuse!! :)

@stiletto_mom: We have the Ergo, Sakura Bloom sling, and the Moby wrap.

I loved the Moby in the beginning. I would wear baby all day. It was awesome. But, it sucked when we were going out, and I forgot to tie it on before. It's so long, and it would inevitably drag on the floor when trying to put it on. Once she was older, we did legs out and a kangaroo carry, but it was short lived. I think a Solly wrap would solve the bulky fabric issue we were having. I absolutely loved the newborn carry, and how it supported her head. It was a great way to spend the 4th trimester.

The sling is good for around the house, but I could never get it so it felt really secure. If we're going to dinner or a shop in our neighborhood, we'll pop her in it. I did not like it for the newborn days, as I felt like I couldn't position her right, and I had to hold her head. It was a gift, so I really try using it as much as possible, but I don't think I'd spend my money on it. Now at 10 months, it's nice to do the hip carry around the house, but that's about it.

My husband hated the wrap and the sling. He thought both were uncomfortable (he did like the Moby when our baby was a newborn), and didn't like how they looked on him.

We use the Ergo most of the time. We used the newborn inset at the beginning. It's very bulky though. It's not really good for wearing while eating, which is why I wore the Moby most of the time when she was really little. We walk/hike a lot, and the Ergo is amazing. My husband loves it, because every part can be adjusted. He has big shoulders, I have small shoulders, and it works for both of us (and our nanny who is like 100 pounds).

ETA: I love the weight distribution with the Ergo and the Moby. The sling isn't comfortable for long walks or carries, because baby is mostly off to one side. BUT, after I had abdominal surgery on my right side, I used the sling because I could position her on the left, and it was great.

Thanks for this thread. I only used a hand me down Bjorn for LO and occasionally a ring sling. I hated them both. I'm thinking of getting a K'tan and a Tula for the munchkin since wearing will be an easier option with an active toddler.

I usually recommend a Wrapsody Stretch (can be used by you or your husband) wrap because it's great for learning on and in the newborn days, but still offers support as your baby grows. Then, if you decide you like wrapping, they are easy to re-sell and hold value well, and you can use that money towards a woven that is better for a toddler or larger infant. Then I would choose between a soft structured carrier or a ring sling (depending on what you choose, you could also have just one that both you and your husband could use) for easier learning curve and quicker "ups" in the early days. For SSCs I think Ergo, Tula, Boba, and Kinderpack are really nice options. I find the Bjorn to be more limited and less comfy for everyone. I generally don't recommend K'Tan and Moby just because they have such a short lifespan. I always tell people to try to check out options in person whenever possible. Good luck!

We had a k'tan, moby, bjorn, and Ergo. The k'tan only really worked when he was a teeny newborn (less than 3-4 weeks) before he hated it. I liked the moby better. It was easier to adjust to him as he grew. Tying it seemed so intimidating but after a few times it got super easy. Just watch some youtube videos. He doesn't love the Ergo quite yet, but I think he will once he is just a little bit older. It's by far the most comfortable for me and DH.

I really wanted baby wearing to work and felt so frustrated months when he didn't seem to like it (hence buying a million carriers). But the advice I got here was just to give him time and keep trying, and that was exactly how it went for us. So don't worry if it takes a little while.
