@paigeface: So glad to hear your update! We also slept in the R&P until about 6 months, and then propped his crib for another few months until he started standing in it. I really do think it helped for night time. We gave LO a trial of Zantac (8 weeks, which was definitely plenty of time) and saw very little difference. We ended up moving on to generic Prilosec (Omeprazole) which worked much better but was annoyingly difficult for my pharmacy to get in liquid form. I've heard of lots of babes needing to up the Zantac dosage or move to other drugs so be sure to speak up if you feel like you aren't seeing much change. Glad your LO is doing better, and I'm sorry you had to go through all that scary stuff!

@jh524: they are so resilient! It's amazing. I feel like I am going to be the same as you watching him for a long time. I already check on him constantly. I am back at work (I work for my fathers business thankfully and he gets to come to work with me!) I am very blessed he can come with me because I don't think I would trust anyone else with him either now besides my fiancée and mom. Thank you for all the kind words mama!

@paigeface: oh so glad to hear he is okay and home!! My lo never had another choking episode after that. I also began elevating any sleeping area (crib and mobile swing) and propping him on his side rather than directly on his back.
And yes those tests are so hard to watch. They're so little and helpless but on the other hand so resilient!! I documented my lo's experience in his baby book because it was such a life changing experience! I literally still watch my lo like a hawk. Still with a video monitor at night and nap and he's 2.5 and rarely let him alone. It was hard to trust anyone with him, I didn't care if I never was alone, , I never wanted to leave him out of my sight for a long time. You may go thru the same feelings. It was traumatic as you know but your he is fine now, healthy and back in your arms where he belongs. . good luck and hugs!!

@jh524: We ended up having all the tests in the hospital as well! Found out baby has reflux and is now on baby Zantac. Really glad it wasn't something else but it was so hard watching him get all the tests done at the hospital. He was SO good. He barely even let out a cry. We haven't had any episodes since the hospital and I really hope it stays that way! We also got a rock-n-play sleeper so that he is not flat on his back anymore. Thanks for your concern and sharing your experience! <3

@paigeface: well my lo was 4 weeks old when he did the same exact thing your describing BUT he didn't recover from it without immediate intervention. It was terrifying. My lo choked and it seemed like it went down the wrong tube and he couldn't recover from it. He panicked, I panicked!! I did everything I knew to do (I'm Cpr trained but omg you forget when it's actually happening!!!) and then I called 911 for help. We rushed him to the ER which was 1 minute away but I think we got there in 15 seconds. They grabbed him and immediately pumped all the fluid out and stabilized him. We were life flighted to the closest NICU and spent 5 days there trying to diagnose. They did X-rays, dye tests of his urinary system and many more I can't recall. He had a enlarged liver but we never had got a diagnoses of what may have caused it and why. They just said a virus??!! He did have projectile diarrhea an hour before the accident. It was just a accident and it could have gone wrong very easily. If I hadn't been there he would have choked to death. I'm glad your at the hospital with your lo. They did every test possible on my lo it was a tough 5 days. He couldn't even have breastmilk for 24 hours when he got there. It was horrid. I'm just happy there was nothing seriously wrong him. He just choked and didn't know how to recover..... I hope your lo will be just fine & if there's something going on that they fix him up and get you back home. Please keep us posted!!!

@paigeface we went to the ER twice on our peds advice. They did a chest xray to make sure he hadn't aspirated and abdominal ultrasound to rule out pyloric stenosis. When he was 3 days old he was admitted to the hospital from the ER with projectile vomiting and had other tests done. I feel your pain, mama, it is so so hard. Prayers for you. My recommendation is get a good pediatric GI doctor. In cases like this the regular ped only goes so far (and I love our ped).

LO is on Zantac, Prevacid and Carafate. After 2 wks of meds he didn't have much improved so his GI put me on an elimination diet (LO is ebf), so no wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, nuts, seafood. And now we are seeing an improvement so we think for him it's reflux plus some food allergy or intolerance.

@Paigeface my 1 month old has extremely severe reflux and has had some very scary breathing/choking episodes. You need to get a full workup though with scary symptoms like that.

You might want to ask for a swallow study, your ped can let you know if it would help them figure out what's going on.

As a reflux mama that doesn't really sound like our experience. We certainly had the arching during/after feeds but never head tilting, eye rolls, or bearing down. I'm hesitant to say it almost sounds like more of a seizure than reflux :bummed: I hope you get some answers soon.

Hi ladies, pretty scary stuff for a first time momma happened to me and baby boy. We are off to the ped right now but wanted to see if anyone had experiences. Twice in the past two weeks our 4week old has been laid down for a nap after 2 hours has passed from bottle feeding, but then begins choking and is not able to breath. His head tilts back, his eyes roll almost backward, his face turns red, and he makes gasping sounds as he tries desparately to take in a breath. he arches his back and looks in so much pain. I burp his back his back until it's passed, and the only thing that comes out is a bubbly, thin, clear saliva substance. Both times it's happened it's been 2 hours since he's eaten. He's also been pretty gassy and fussy lately in between feeds. He spit up twice today already. Has anyone else had this same problem and was it diagnosed as reflux? What did you do when your baby was choking?
