It really depends on the baby. I'd generally size up.

Your best bet is a gift receipt.

My LO is 6.5 months, was 14.12 a week ago and 25" long. Gymboree leggings were tight on her legs yesterday, getting a little short, but still big in the waist. The shirt was big too. The outfit was 3-6 months. Gymboree runs big to me.

I think you should base it on height instead of weight and age. It's a little tricky because each brand goes by their own measurement, so it's hard to compare based on the age on the label, it's best to look at actual measurement guidelines. Here's part of Gymboree's sizing chart.

I'd ask how tall she is first, then go by that (if it's close to their height limit, I'd go a size up, but if she measures at the lower end of the size, I'd stick to that size since it's not that long until Halloween.

My daughter was always tall and lean and we never had issues with fall off the shoulders and she wears TONS of Gymbo.

I'd go for 6-12.

Just wanted to throw out that Gymboree runs wide, in our experience. My 10 week, 10 pounder is barely able to wear 0-3 month items without them sagging off her little shoulders. It really depends on your niece's shape. If she's short and chunky, 6-12 months might be just fine. But if she's anything like my string bean, I'm willing to bet the 3-6 will still be a fine fit, come Thanksgiving. Heck, it might last all the way through New Years.

Get 6-12, it will fit for a longer time.

My 6 month old is over 18lbs and wears 6-12 month onesies but 3-6 month pants, his legs are short.

When in doubt you could always ask her parents.

@NCSUchick27: I'd definitely do 6-12. It's hard to say because every baby fits in stuff different, but it's much easier to roll and cuff than stuff a baby in!

Hey I went to ncsu too :)

The 6-12 month is going To be a little big for awhile. My LO is six months old and 6 month pants still don't fit her and she's probably 18 lb. she can still wear 3-6, although not in onesies, which are getting too short

I am looking at buying my niece a fall themed outfit. I found one that I like, but I can't decided what size to get her. She is 4 1/2 months old and weighs a little less than 15 lbs. The sizing chart says 3-6 months is 12-17 lbs and 6-12 months is 17-22lbs. I want her to be able to wear it up until around Thanksgiving when she will be about 6 1/2 months.. I think I should get the 3-6 months, but I am not sure.

Here is what I want to get:
