I started Zoey on pureed barley cereal instead of rice cereal or oatmeal. Barley has much more fiber than both. I mixed it with pears and prunes and it's pretty tasty and very high in fiber. She's been pretty regular since then.

During those constipation times, we fed lots of pureed prunes and tons of liquid. It's really sad to see them strain so hard. :( After a few days of prunes and liquids, he always went back to normal.

@Nskillet: Pellet-like poop is a classic sign of constipation, and the most painful type of poop to pass. Dark poop is also a sign of constipation. :(

Has something changed recently with her formula? Formula can be a common cause of constipation, as it often contains dairy. There are brands of formula specifically formulated to help with constipation... maybe that would be a good place to start? In consultation with your pediatrician...

I was going to suggest pureed prunes....DS went through a phase where he would refuse bottles but wanted solids. I still gave him solids, but just for taste and so he wouldn't get ma but cut back on solids substantially until I was comfortable with what he was drinking.

My LO gets a little backed up sometimes too-prune juice, apples and water helps. It takes a little while to get things back on track, but I've found as long as I give her water with her lunch and dinner (and mix her oatmeal with apples, peaches or pears) it doesn't happen as often.

We had issues with not pooping during the introduction of solids (though she never strained or had hard poops). I pushed a lot of pear juices/water mixed and prunes. No Bananas, rice, apples or toast.

Hmmm...I think I would stick to foods that aren't constipating - like you are and after a while, that should probably help. At least that's what I've heard. I'm no expert on it as we haven't started yet. I hope she feels better soon!!

My 6 month old (almost 7 month old) has been constipated all weekend and last week at daycare. She recently has been rejecting more bottles and wants to eat more solids. We have been trying to offer her bottles before meals to help. Yesterday we cut out cereal, mum mums, and gave her pear juice/water and also prunes with some apple.

Her poo is pellet like and very dark/smelly. She is also working real hard to make them. Anyone have any suggestions?
