@MrsF: yes, straight. It was the first time we've given juice, too. I guess this is why it works: "The sugars in fruit juice aren’t digested very well, so they draw fluid into the intestines and help loosen stool. As a rule of thumb, you can give 1 ounce a day for every month of life up to about 4 months (a 3-month-old baby would get 3 ounces)."

Suppositories were just glycerin in infant size - I had to ask for them at the pharmacy counter.

@chopsuey119: I actually looked at your previous thread before I started this one (I skipped the photo, though  ) Your poor kiddo!

@MamaBehr: @Mrs. Tricycle: She's not getting anything out at all. I've been considering the juice, she's never had any! Do you mix it with anything or just give it straight? Are the suppositories just OTC glycerine?

@Bao: I bought the Gerber version, but I don't see how it's any different from an "adult" 100% juice.

We're experiencing the same thing as we introduce more solids. I don't count days so much, but as soon as it looks like he's straining fruitlessly and uncomfortable while doing it, I take more drastic action. The first time it happened I waited a day or two after I first saw him straining and it was awful - he got so miserable. The doctor had us use infant suppositories and that helped solve the problem almost immediately - but I could see why he was so uncomfortable. Now at the first sign of him straining 3 or 4 oz of white grape juice or pear juice in a bottle usually does the trick, but if I don't catch it soon enough, we have to go to the big guns.

LO goes 5-7 days without pooping, all the time. Then she will spend 2 days going several times a day and she struggles. She cries and they are such big poops it breaks my heart :( I don't know what else to do though but give her the right foods.

DS often got (and gets) constipated. This sounds terrible, but whenever he would start to strain and push I would get him on the floor, grab wipes, and un-diaper him. I would gently pull, or guide, the poop out. But, that is when he had a little coming out. He always managed to get some out, does you LO get anything out?
What about prune juice? That's the only time DS gets juice.

DD went 11 or 12 days without a decent poop.
I knew she was constipated so I stuck my pinky finger up her baby booty and sat her on the potty (she was around.. 9-10 months old and I was doing EC on and off).

OMG!!!! Biggest, hardest, longest, thickest poop ever. She cried. And had a little fissure on her butt for a long time after.

Since that incident I fed her a pear pouch daily and she never had constipation again. She went and goes 1-5x a day now. Effortless poops.

M hasn't pooped in 6 days :( She's almost 10 months and eating more solids every day, so I'm sure that's mixing her up. For the past few days she's been had multiple episodes where it looked (and sounded) like she was trying to go, but nothing at all. She's BLW, so she won't take prune puree but we've been giving her lots of pears, peaches, pieces of prunes and water and avoiding constipating foods. How long would you go before trying a more (ahem) invasive intervention? What would you try?
