We have the same issue, started a month or so after introducing solids! I've started giving him more pears, yogurt, prune baby food, and water, and not doing his iron fortified cereal every day. Helps us, I hate to see him straining!

@Foodnerd81: Yeah, she was, but don't stress too much! Her ped said that can be totally normal when they're adjusting to solids and that it didn't mean she was constipated. I'd just trust your gut about the fussiness and be proactive if her stools start to get too hard.

@hilsy85: She loves pears, luckily, and ate a ton of blueberries last night. No more bananas for a while.

@rattles: So, she was showing the symptoms (straining, grunting) before her poops showed them? Maybe I should be more proactive with the prunes now to avoid that. Your poor LO.

LO had days when he was visibly straining a bit, but it was never constipated poop. I added in lots of pears and limited bananas and apples until it seemed like he got used to more solids.

We had this with LO. It got worse for her, and she did eventually get the dry/hard bms and would cry and strain. We were giving prunes at least once a day, but she still ended up with bloody stools from tearing, poor thing. We gave her an ounce of prune juice a day on her ped's advice, which helped. And as she got older, she outgrew it.

So, if anyone is offended by poop talk, you probably shouldn't have clicked on this...

Since C started solids about a month ago, her poop situation has been pretty inconsistent, but lately, she's going at least 4 days between dirty diapers. When she finally goes, as expected, it's a LOT. It doesn't seem to follow the description of 'constipated poops' (hard and dry)-- while it's more solid than before, it's not hard or anything.

BUT, for days before she goes, she's been making these hard grunting noises, her face gets red like she is straining, but nothing happens other than seriously stinky farts sometimes. She seems uncomfortable and fussy, which is what makes me think her stomach is actually a little upset? What do you think? Or maybe she just figured out this fun new noise?

I'm trying to make sure to give her water with her solids, and make sure to not do too many binding foods, plus she is not even getting them every day. She is still breastfed. Anyone experience something similar?
