@Beth24: Balboa slings can actually be really dangerous. When used in the cradle position they can cause baby to curl up in a way that their airway gets cut off. I would not use one on a newborn.

LO wasn't a fan of the k'tan either (so sad!), so i used the ergo with the infant insert.

i love our k'tan... maybe try a different position? my lo loved the hug hold. it's a little more "structured" than the kangaroo style.

My first just didn't like inward facing but I didn't wear him much in the beginning so he wasn't used to it. He lived outward facing though.

I did get an ergo for baby 2 hoping I can get him to inward face. And we still have a bjorn and will borrow a moby.

My baby hated the k'tan and we figured out it's because she likes to look around at everything. The k'tan was also too snug for her. I got a sling (balboa I think) and she loves it! She sits in there and look all around - she'll even nap in there if I am walking around a bunch while she's in it.

@Weagle: @Mrs. J: @blackbird: thanks! Is "ring sling" a generic term, or a brand? When I search on amazon, it pulls up so many different kinds!

My baby doesn't like carriers either. Someone suggested I try the bjorn because some babies just like the forward facing style better. I think you can use the bjorn starting at 8 lbs? You might want to try that if your baby has neck control.

I find that what works best is something that mimics how they prefer to be held. If he prefers to be up higher, a wrap would be my first choice, or maybe a ring sling. Can you tell what about the carrier seems to bother him? Ellie hated being pressed up against me and restricted in any way. She did better with a burp-hold type carry.

ergo or a ring sling? We used a k'tan for like....two months. Then ring sling all the way.

We liked our ktan, ergo (with insert) and now I use a woven wrap primarily. Maybe a RS or woven wrap?

K'tans aren't very supportive, and that can be uncomfortable for baby. They may feel like they're just floating around without much to catch them. I would try something else. Either a RS or a SSC. Don't know your LO's age, but for me SSCs can be a bit cumbersome for babies that are still too small to wear sans insert. The Kinderpack infant is the only one I've found that I like for small ones.

We tried everything (k'tan, moby, ergo infant insert), but our baby just didn't like the carriers very much until he got more neck control and could forward face around 3.5 months. We did that in the baby bjorn for a while, and then at 5 months switched to the Ergo which he likes a lot.

I would think about a soft structured carrier. They can be easier to get a fit on and will last a long time.

Baby C wasn't fond of the k'tan. When I put him in there kangaroo style (upright on my chest) he would push away from me with his arms and fuss/cry. I could never get him high enough, he would drop lower and lower, even after I pull the loop in the back. He didn't like being in there cradle-style either, he would cry. :bummed:

Should I try another sling, or just figure that it's not for every baby? What sling would you recommend?
