How long did you try? I'd give it at least a few days to a week to see if they can get used to it... If not, switch! My first was not a swaddle lover but we used the merlin sleep suit forever. Right now my newborn is still in the whatever phase and seems ok with anything I put on her...

@Smurfette: I think everyone wants a miracle swaddle! We just transitioned her a month or so ago from the arms up to the zipadee and the transition went really well.

@T.H.O.U.: I agree. LO2 has really bad gas and I think a regular swaddle was too tight she couldn't get it out. But she does better with something. I wish it was a miracle swaddle though. I am lucky to get two hours of sleep at night.

With reflex, my DD had a hard time with traditional swaddles because they kept her so stiff that she could not really move to help get the gas/air up.

The Love to Dream arms up was a life saver for us because she could finally wiggle enough to be comfortable. But I do believe it did take a while for her to get used to having her hands next to hear face. And it wasn't a miracle that she suddenly slept 8-12 hours or anything. She still was up every 2-4 hours but those 2-4 hours she was sleeping was much more restful.

Not sure how the Love to Dream Swaddle Up fits your DS....but on my DD, it's loose enough that I can't imagine it would do much to stop a startle reflex. I agree with others that you probably need one of the traditional swaddles that keeps the arms at the sides/on the chest. I know it stinks when swaddles don't work out, b/c they are expensive. Maybe you can find someone to swap with?

I know you want to make that work, but my son never took to any of those swaddle things. However we have used the zipadeezip and love it! Like, it will be the baby shower gift I always give now, love it.

My first loved the Swadde Me's. 2nd one, not so much. The Love to Dream seems to be the winner. She likes having her hands by her face.

@Lilmrsm: I would try a woobie or something similar. My DD needed a swaddle that didn't give her access to her hands

Just get another swaddle, like the swaddleme or halo. My DD didn't like that one either. It was really distracting to her because her hands were near her face and she kept feeling them and wanting to nurse. She did great in other swaddles though.

Had some serious startle reflex at first so I bought the swaddle up based on recommendation but he seems to whimper/whine more with it and sleep less! Anybody know if it takes time to get used to? Before I got we did sleep sacks but I don't want to go back to that yet. I want the swaddle up to work. Just wondering how?
