@MrsB2012: I wonder if that's how H will turn out! It's so hard to imagine because my eldest is often described as exuberant...super happy, silly, and loud! But I know siblings can be opposites.

Yep DD was a very serious baby. I always told strangers who would try to get a smile out of her that she was serious and most likely wouldn't smile at them. Around 8 or 9 months she became a whole new baby and now she's almost always smiling or giggling!

I had a super serious baby, but very happy. She's a total ham now at 17 months. I wouldn't worry at all at 9 weeks. I was always jealous of the cute smiley pics everyone else seemed to have! I just chalked t up to having RBF like her mom!

Will was that way the first few months - with his serious face, DH's cousin would ask, "are you worried about the mortgage?" :) He is now 1 and from 5/6 months on he got super smiley. It's more of an effort to get him to laugh but he has a happy disposition. Not to worry :)

My DD now at almost 8 mo is not a super smiley baby. She is very happy don't get me wrong... But I think she is always so busy observing that she ends up looking so serious all the time haha!

My LO was a very serious baby and we maybe only got 1 smile per day out of her until she was 6 months old! She's a very happy smiley almost 2 year old now, so I wouldn't be too worried :)

This is so us too! E is 9 weeks old today and while we've gotten a few big smiles out of her, they are very few and far between and we have to work for them. DH and I tried so hard (through two different photography sessions) to get a good smile out of her for her 2 month pictures two days ago. This is the best I could get:

I wouldn't worry! It was tough to get K to smile until she was maybe 3-4 months old. I think it was around 6 months that we could REALLY get her giggling and grinning at things.

My older daughter is the most serious child ever. We had to work to get that girl to smile when she was a baby, and like yours, didn't find tickling and that kind of stuff silly. She was very content, slept really well, ate well, a generally easy baby, just ... serious. At 2 now, she's still the same way, but she does find things funny and laughs.. she's still quiet and serious most of the time though. There's definitely nothing wrong with her, it's just her personality :)

She's so cute!! My baby laughed for the first time around 2 months old and then didn't do it again for over three weeks!! She is still very stingy about it. I figure she is just picky about what is REALLY funny, or maybe she'll grow up to have a sardonic sense of humor.

H will be 9 weeks old on Friday. She can smile, but she doesn't do so very often and I have to REALLY work at it. She doesn't find tickling and general silliness very funny, but if I really grin in her face at the right time of day, she will smile back. Her pediatrician isn't worried because she does smile sometimes...she says she is just a "serious" baby. She is pretty laid back...not at all fussy and sleeps a lot. Seems content most of the time. She has great eye contact and tracks really well.

Anyone else have a not-so-smiley baby??? Did they smile more as they it older? I am trying not to worry, but I can't help it! Her older sister started smiling a lot at 4 weeks!

Here's an example of a hard to come by smile....
