Thank you guys. My DH keeps reminding me that she's EXACTLY on track right now for both size and weight so there is 0 reason to be concerned. Right now. I'm trying to just take a one-day-at-a-time approach and not worry until I have real reason to. Emphasis on "trying". :)

My baby has a two vessel umbilical cord, which I think is similar. I also have had poor test results during my first trimester screening which could lead to a potential problem with the placenta.
I have been seeing my family doctor the entire pregnancy but have also been under monitoring at my hospitals Maternal Fetal Concerns Clinic. I've been getting growth scans every 4 to 3 weeks, and will be starting another type of scan weekly for the last few weeks. But my baby has been measuring consistently at around the 50th percentile and everything is looking great. Because of the issues, I am being induced though at 40 weeks, if I don't go earlier.

@JoJoGirl: hey!

We found this out at our 19 weeks scan. I wasn't with OBs yet (just family doc) and she didn't know much about it. Just called to tell me what I had and sent me for an echo on the baby. I STILL haven't seen an OB (I go on Tuesday). I just had a growth ultrasound and she's measuring 60th percentile.

The ultrasound tech that did the growth US this week said she has seen a lot and whenever there's another issue its quite obvious. My scan looked good and so did the echo. I haven't even learned about the risks because I haven't seen an OB. So I have no idea what the plan is but I'm assuming growth scans every 4 weeks. I googled about the still birth risk but didn't find much.

I'm sure everything will be ok!

I had sua with dd1. It meant frequent ultrasounds, two fetal echocardiograms, and a plan for an immediate nicu stay as some of her fetal echo measurements came back borderline towards the end of my pregnancy (they wanted her in the nicu until she could be evaluated by a pediatric cardiologist, which could have taken up to 24 hours post birth). She was born 7lbs, 10oz and everything was perfect. She stayed just about 24 hours in the nicu and was discharged once the cardiologist gave the ok. Dd1 is a happy, healthy, thriving 3yo today! Wishing you the very best!!

My son had SUA in utero, too. He is now a healthy 16-month-old. He was born on 40+1 at 7 lbs, 12 ounces. We had a few extra ultrasounds but, really and truly, if everything else looks perfect, try not to worry. Trust your doc, and don't let yourself Google too much-it'll just worry you! Feel free to reach out if you want to talk specifics.

My 2nd had this. She's healthy and was a lb more than my first.

SUA is seen in association with a lot of different birth defects but when it's found in isolation its usually not by itself any indication of problems. I had a fetal echocardiogram to look at baby's heart and kidneys and different drs gave all sorts of scary statistics. But after a few growth ultrasounds all the drs seemed to say it's fine.

Best wishes!

Not personally, but I've had several patients with SUA. Most go on to have perfectly healthy kids. One child did have some health problems, but there was more than just the SUA visible on ultrasound. So I think that the fact that your ultrasound was otherwise normal is reassuring. Keep in mind that though there is an "increased risk" for those things, it's still more likely that things will be fine. Just something that makes them watch things a little more closely.

@T.H.O.U.: No, the plan of action is monitoring. Ill have u/s every 4 weeks until the end.

@avivoca: My older LO is also tall and thin so I wouldn't be surprised if this one is too. Just don't want to go under 6 lbs if possible!

@JoJoGirl: To be fair, both of her kiddos were under 7 pounds. Both she and her husband are tall and thin, so her babies were tall and thin as well. Her son is on the smaller side now, but it's because of his severe food allergies limiting the things he can eat.

@JoJoGirl: I'm glad everything generally looked good today, and I'm sorry that they scared you. I don't know anything about this, but it sounds like you're in good hands and that they have protocols in place to watch for baby. And you get to see the baby every 4w, so that's reassuring. Hugs, mama.

@avivoca: Thank you. My older LO was 6.5 lbs at 37 weeks so if I go that early again we'll have problems :(

@MrsBeluga: Thanks - except unfortunately it's not an issue of her heart stopping, it's that she may be too small. Only reassurance will be ultrasounds.

@JoJoGirl: Im so sorry youre having to deal with this extra stress! It sounds like the good news is that they are planning to do extra monitoring to ensure baby is progressing normally and will intervene at the first sign of trouble. While not ideal, it does sound like a good plan. I know that does nothing for your stress level though!

As if being pregnant wasnt nerve wrecking enough. Maybe they can recommend a home doppler? Soon baby will be big enough that you feel her throughout the day too, and I think that would be calming. Hang in there and hugs.

Hi all - baby looked perfect at our anatomy scan today (18w6d) and exactly on track for growth.

The radiologist is concerned because she has a SUA (1 artery instead of 2 in her cord). The fact sheet says things like "higher risk for stillbirth" so I am freaking out. I have to have ultrasounds every 4 weeks now to make sure baby is growing.

Anyone here had this?
