Update; Our ped prescribed a precription cream, Westcort. I looked it up and it's a rx hyrdocortisone cream, so hopefully, it'll help!

@Anagram: I have not. I've only tried cortizone. I believe they are different. I just talked to our ped's nurse and she said she was going to talk to the ped and see if they could call in a prescription since nothing was working. I will try some hydrocortisone cream too. Thanks for the recommendation!
@charlotte: Thank you! I am going to try the longer baths from here on out. Hopefully, the nurse calls me back and says she called us in a prescription. :)

@MarieJ: you're welcome! Apparently there is a huge range of recommendations. Our ped had us bathing once a week for awhile! The allergist is the one who recommended the longer daily baths and it has seemed to help, for our guy at least. Hope your LO gets some relief.

@MarieJ: Have you tried the over-the-counter hydrocortisone yet? Our LO also gets eczema and the last time she had a really bad flare up, none of our usual fixes were helping (ceraVe cream, vanicream, mustela stylepoia or however it's spelled), and the doctor said try regular hydrocortisone first before he would prescribe anything else, and her eczema started clearing up within 24 hours. It took about a week before it fully started to go away, but I could see a difference immediately.

@charlotte: Thank you for that link! I was doing baths for no longer than 5 minutes, looks like I need to lengthen bath time. I will also try cetaphil & vanicream.
@Mamaof2: Thank you! I usually do luke warm, but will try cool.@anbanan15: I'm going to buy cetaphil & vanicream today :)@Mamasig: All I've been using is free and clear & we are still having issues : (@Adira: I'm shocked as well! I have a call in this morning to discuss further with the nurse. I'm really hoping he'll budge. i love him, but I want him to give her a rx for some immediate relief! @blackbird: Thanks! I will try that too :)

We use hydrocortizone valerate, a 2% steroid solution. Both our ped and dermatologist gave it the thumbs up for E at 6 weeks old. It works awesome.

@MarieJ: I'm surprised your ped won't subscribe anything. Both my kids were given prescriptions for their eczema before 3 or 4 months. Xander was also referred to a dermatologist for his.

We use desonide cream or ointment (prescription) and it works WONDERS. It's only a step stronger than over the counter hydrocortisone. If your ped won't subscribe anything, I'd suggest using either the hydrocortisone ointment OR using the hydrocortisone cream and sealing it in with aquaphor on top (that's what we do with our desonide cream).

ETA: Also - give baths sparingly (2-3 times a week) in very lukewarm water. And we use Aquaphor baby wash and shampoo - it's VERY gentle.

Also remember to use fragrance free products and dye and fragrance free detergent. I was moisturizing DS2 well, but his eczema was still flaring up. Once I changed detergents and got fragrance free products, his skin greatly improved.

My DS had eczema until he was 4.

Our allergist had us doing a cool bath and afterwards when still damp slather him in Vaseline and put on cotton pjs - it was the only (non prescription) way that kept it at bay.

We use Cetaphil bodywash, Vanicream and Sarna sensitive. It helps, but still takes awhile to clear up a flare sometimes.

My LO has had eczema since he was a baby as well (now 2 yrs old). Our allergist recommends this method for bathing : http://www.nationaljewish.org/healthinfo/conditions/allergy/types/eczema/lifestyle-management/soak-and-seal.aspx

We use only cetaphil gentle as soap and johnsons baby shampoo for shampoo. Vanicream for lotion (less greasy than aquaphor and works better for us). When we first started really treating it it worked well to do the bath, put tons of vanicream on, and then put long sleeve pj pants and shirt on, slightly dampened in the bad areas (like behind the knees).

If it keeps getting bad maybe consider a visit to an allergist. They know a lot about eczema. I wish I had known all of that but our first visit was unfortunately after LO ate peanuts for the first time and reacted.

@MarieJ: ya our ped still isn't too keen on a RX. She prescribed us one but said only use it for 5 days at a time and it did absolutely nothing.

This is like 1 hour difference with the salve I made. I mean it's not all the way gone, but we are actively working on it. Seriously I think her friends mom's at gymnastics think she has leprosy or something. I feel bad :(

My youngest dd, 5.5 months old, has eczema. It's bad enough that she scratches whenever skin is out. Her belly, legs, scalp and face seem to be the problem areas. Her ped doesn't want to do a prescription yet (I'm assuming she's too young) so, I've tried Aveeno baby eczema wash and moisturizing cream, aquaphor wash and healing ointment, cortizone cream and dove sensitive skin to no avail.

What products have worked for you if your LO has/had eczema? I would really like to give my Dd some relief.
