@LadyDi: oh I see. For now they are estimating about 6 weeks but the pediatric orthopedic surgeon will keep assessing him and see how he progresses.

@Mrsbells: it was the lower part of his thigh, just above his knee. Thankfully he didn’t need to be in a cast that wrapped all of the way around him. How long will your son be in the harness for?

Thanks everyone your responses really help me feel a little better.

@Foodnerd81: thanks! Yes landing on the bed helped him not injure anything else but that one leg was still partially trapped by the strap of the baby carrier and I was still holding on to his leg! Such a horrible thing to happen.

@LadyDi: Thanks for sharing that I feel so bad about it. Was it the lower leg in your baby's case? My son wasnt put in a cast but has to wear a plavik harness shown below. Its mainly for hip dysplasia but also works for a thigh break of his kind.

I am so sorry! Must have been so stressful/scary! I agree that most have been able to back carry with no issues but also that it really is mostly luck.

Oh no, I’m so sorry that happened! What a nightmare to go through. My son broke his leg when he was 6 months old, I fell on our stairs while I was carrying him. We had a similar experience at the hospital and it was very stressful. On the plus side, babies heal very quickly and he never seemed bothered by his cast!

Thanks everyone! Yes it has been hard to see him in pain and the broken bone means weeks rather than days of recovery. But I am glad I was right by the bed and he didnt fall to the floor

I have been using the ergo baby carrier since 2012 with my oldest child. Yesterday while putting my 6 month old into it (back carry) he squirmed and threw his weight backwards while one leg was already restrained. Despite my best efforts to prevent him falling by holding on to the leg and also reaching behind me to support his weight he landed on the bed behind me and broke his thigh bone! Its has been a very stressful 24 hours including full skeletal xrays, multiple attempts at IV lines and being evaluated for possible abuse and neglect. He is now home and is wearing a hip dysplasia brace for the next few weeks. Just wanted to share my experience in case anyone else uses the ergo for back carry. I fully believe it takes two people to safely use it for back carry. DH has always complained about how hard it is to get on but I have never had an issue til yesterday.
