@Pirouette: We use the dr. browns slow flow and they work fine but J smushes the medelas and nothing comes out. Had no experience with it until the other day when he randomly had a medela bottle :)

@Pirouette: Yes, our issue was 90% inverting and 10% flattening. She still flattens the Dr Browns occasionally but it's SO much better. She never flattened the Tomee Tippee, and I know a lot of BF friends I have used them, so that may work. I only used 2 of the 3 once each (and sterilized after) so since they didn't work for us, I'm happy to share with another mom struggling with bottles! It was hard enough for us- my daughter ONLY taking bottles- I can't imagine the stress that causes on top of worrying about BF too. HUGS!

@kjpugs: hahaha!! I don't even want to know what came up!! It doesn't sound like she's inverting, just flattening. I think we're gonna try a few things this weekend and then if she's still struggling, we'll order a few bottles/nipples. I may take you up on the bottles, I will let you know! And thanks so much...feeding is so hard, especially since I feel like I can't leave her for a second because she won't take anything but the breast! This momma needs a break at some point, and eventually I have to go back to work!

@Pirouette: yikes. Just googled 'inverted bottle nipple' to try to find a pic (since they aren't on my phone anymore) on my WORK COMPUTER and I will never be doing that again, HAHA!

@Pirouette: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/baby-flatteningdeflating-bottle-nipple-while-eating

I thought I had included pics of the inverted nipples but didn't, woops :( When I said bottles before I MEANT nipples, haha. It would happen that the tip of the nipple would basically get sucked back into the bottle. It didn't turn inside out, but the nipples this happened to were more flexible- it just kind of poked in. I'll see if I can find a picture.

We used the Medela nipples and that happened, as well as flattening. The collars we got from the hospital (the minty green ones) worked with the Dr Brown's ones. The Dr Brown's collars didn't work- their screw part of the bottle is taller so the nipples didn't sit as securely when on another bottle. We just removed and replaced the ones from the hospital with Dr Brown's ones, and we bought some I think NUK ones at BRU that fit it too. We had to buy them with nipples and replace the nipples, but they were cheap and they were the only collars that worked. You might see if a friend near you has any you can try if you don't have the "standard" nipples/collars that would be interchangeable.

Wishing you the best of luck! Feeding is SUCH a hard thing to worry about because it's so directly related to the health of your child. I have 3 Tommee Tippee small (5oz) bottles I'd be happy to send you for the cost of shipping if you want to try those. Keep trying- you'll find the right thing!

@kjpugs: thanks!! So you can use the dr brown nipple with another bottle? Id love not to have to buy the bottles yet. I'm hesitant to go up in nipple size because she's still so young and tiny, but I'll try anything!

I am not sure exactly what you mean by inverting the bottle... But I think she's just flattening the nipple - I'd have to ask dh because I can't be in the room or she won't take the bottle at all!

I had the same issue, although BF didn't work out for us. I did a post about WTH to do about E and the nipples! She was inverting/flattening them. She still does somewhat, but we had to use sturdier nipples. The ones that we've tried that work are just Dr Brown's. They still flatten slightly but if I pull them out a bit, they refill and she goes to town. We just use the nipples, but I've heard that the actual BOTTLES are great because of the air flow or something. We aren't going to spend more $$ on bottles until she goes up to the bigger than 5 oz ones. OH, and we had to go up in nipple flow bc of her strong suck. A week or two before she was 3 months she started the 3 month Dr Brown's nipple. Maybe that will help!

Has she inverted the bottles at all? That was our bigger problem (I'll post my post here in a sec so you can see, there's a picture.) The Tommee Tippee inverted for us but I had a lot of people recommend them, especially for BF babies, maybe try those?

@erinpye: no she never does it to mine...she has no latch problems with me, just the bottle?

@Ash: like a faster flow bottle? I do have a fast let down, so maybe the bottle is too slow for her?

I read flattening the nipple can mean you need a higher flow. Not sure if this is the case for you though.

Did baby do that to your nipples too? Flattening nipes is a classic tongue tie symptom. See more in the articles here: http://www.kiddsteeth.com.

We use the Philips Avent bottles and those nipples are strong enough that my LO can't flatten them. She also has a super strong latch (bruised nipples anyone?).

Make sure that the nipple isn't screwed on too tightly. When I over-tighten LO's bottles, she does this and I have to loosen it slightly.

Ok so this more of a bottle feeding question but it is closely related to bfing so I'm putting it in that board (seems to be where I post everything lately!)

We are introducing a bottle for the first time, and I have the comotomo and born free bottles to start with. DH tried twice now to give her the comotomo bottle and she is flattening the nipple in her mouth and not getting any milk. She has a very aggressive suck at the breast (even the lc at the hospital was impressed!) So I'm wondering if she needs a more sturdy nipple?

I'm not sure if this is just a matter of her adjusting to bottles v the breast or if this is an issue with the bottles I'm using? Maybe she needs a harder nipple or something? He tried the born free tonight and the born free nipples are a little longer so less flimsy, but dh said he thought she preferred the shape of the comotomo bottle because the top is shaped like a breast. Either way though she's only taking half an ounce at a time so far.

Anyone have this issue? Should I try different bottles or keep at it with these a little longer? Obviously I don't want to buy every bottle on the market here! But I'm not sure if this is something she'll adjust to with time?
