We love our Playtex drop-ins. I think a starter bottle is around $5 at target and it comes with ten liners.

@kjpugs: I could send you a playtex drop in and some liners if you don't want to drop some money before trying. We have plenty of extras.

You might need either a "drop in" style bottle, or a bottle with a bottom vent. We have some NICU babies that do this and either one or the other usually fixes it (so either the playtex drop-ins, or ventaire bottles)

Ugh, our Tommee Tippee nipples are the worst - DH and I fight about them often. With our TT nipples we find that loosening the lid a little fixes the problem, but it sounds like you've tried that. :(
Our Avent wide mouth bottles/nipples are my absolute favorite - IF you're wanting to try another bottle.
I've also heard that the deflating can happen if the baby is sucking too much air

Maybe you need a totally different nipple shape? LO only used the mOmma bottles for a long time. They required her to open her mouth quite wide so she didn't collapse them.

@pinkb: I tried loosening the lid at this feeding, no luck. The new nipples are dr browns (because they fit into the collars we have) but we aren't using dr browns bottles. I want to try one but hesitate to drop the $$, it's not like you can return used bottles :(

@2PeasinaPod: not breastfeeding, and we did go up one level in flow, and no difference- still flattening, just seems to eat a little faster.

Are you breast feeding too? If not, it's b/c LO may need a faster flow. Our LO started collapsing nipples when he needed a faster flow. If you are breastfeeding, you might not want to go with a faster flow since your let down won't change...

I use the Avent too and DD hasn't been able to flatten those. But I'd hate for you to go out and buy the Avent and have them not work. :/

I know you don't want to get more bottles, but Avent are really firm & so it harder to invert. I wonder if there's a way you could get a free one to try? I somehow ended up with two even though I didn't buy any or get them as gifts.

The Medelas were the worst! I didn't have trouble with Avents or Tommie Tippees collapsing though.

In my experience when the nipple collapses it is because there is no air flow. It happened a lot with the cheap even flow bottles we had because we put the lids on too tight. Never had an issue with Dr Browns though.

This is a follow up to a recent post I made about bottle nipples. LO was eating so that the nipples would seem to have the air sucked out of them and flatten/deform. The medela nipples especially- when I'd pull it out to fix it they'd invert into themselves.

The hospital bottle nipples we got were working fine but would similarly flatten out, though would just re-"inflate" when I pulled them out.

When this is happening I can tell because she seems to be sucking hard and not getting anything. A few of you suggested faster flow possibly, or other bottles.

I tried some Tommee Tippees and they were HORRIBLE. It seems that the wider the nipple base the more likely they are to deflate and invert.

I bought new Dr Brown's nipples and put them in the collars of our old nipples. These are the 3 month ones. (LO is almost 12 weeks.) Honestly besides that she finishes faster, I don't notice a difference.

However, these nipples do the deflating thing too.

I'm at the point where I don't want to buy more bottles/nipples, because I'm afraid this will keep happening. It makes feedings take longer, frustrates LO, and is messy. I cannot for the life of me figure out what's causing it.

1) Anyone know the cause of this or have the same issues? Any ideas how to fix it?
2) Anyone have this issue and have a bottle/nipple to recommend that fixed it for them?

Thanks in advance. I can't find anything online about this issue (maybe because I can't think of the perfect word to describe what happens) so I am feeling really stuck and frustrated!
