@LivsMama: @regberadaisy: I really like the look of those, and how they are walk through! Especially for future kids, I do not want to be moving and hassling with baby gates for the next 5 years lol

We're getting one to start with and will use it at the top of the stairs. May invest in more if that's too much a concern, but that's the plan for now. Baby isn't even born yet so we have a little while!

At the top of stairs so she doesn't fall down. We have this one, love it bc it matches our decor and isn't "baby" looking!

http://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-Wood-Steel-Designer-Silver/dp/B004CL9YHS

Our house is multi level so there are only like 6 steps per flight. If it was longer run I would probably do top & bottom.

we have 4 gates in our house. We have one at the top and bottom of our main stairs, one leading into the kitchen (there are 2 brick steps down into the kitchen,) and one that leads into the laundry room, because our back staircase (and old butler staircase) is in there, and its too narrow for any gates we're found. We used to use another one to keep her contained in whatever room we were in, but we let her wander now that she is fully mobile. As long as the stairs are blocked.

We have this one
http://www.amazon.com/Summer-Infant-Extra-Decorative-Walk-Thru/dp/B000XT30G4

and another kind that I cant find online.

If I could make any suggestion, make sure you get a walk-thru gate for the stairs so you arent stuck sliding or unhinging one all the time. And I would definitely get top and bottom of stairs.

We just installed gates last night as our LO is now full on crawling and exploring :) Our downstairs level has a living room that is separated from the kitchen/dining area (no open concept) so we have made our living room the "safe" room. I did add locks to cabinets in the kitchen, moved cleaning supplies to an upper cabinet, and we always keep our bathroom door closed anyways, but I still don't feel comfortable with him roaming the entire level of the house unless I'm right there with him. So we gated the living room rather than blocking off the stairs. Then on our upper level we gated his room (which is right next to the stairs anyways). We did this so he wouldn't be able to get into our upstairs bathroom and our room.

We bought these gates from Amazon - I would say they're pretty good for the money but we've only had them for a day so far! http://www.amazon.com/Regalo-Easy-Open-Super-Wide/dp/B001OC5UNK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1360251634&sr=8-1&keywords=regalo+baby+gate

we have basic pressure mounted plastic ones for our dog and they worked when my nephew was young too. in her doorway to her room, we have http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4322419&fromRegistryNumber=48166362&product_skn=514428 .

when we buy a home, if it has stairs, we will gate top and bottom to be safe.

We only gate off the top of the stairs so DS can't fall down. We use the Dream Baby gates, and really love them!

LO is 5 months old, so she isn't mobile (yet) but she will be within the next few months. We are moving into a house that has stairs so I am wondering, if you keep gates at the top and bottom of the stairs, just one or the other? Do you gate off any other areas of your home? We do have a gate play yard but that won't work for the stairs. If you have a gate, which one do you have?
