It's really great! But does require drilling holes.

We have the one recommended here and love love love it: http://www.hellobee.com/2014/02/04/our-munchkin-loft-safety-gate-the-best-gate-ever/

It's easy to install and is secure. It's also easy to open 1 handed so going up and down the stairs with laundry is a breeze. It's totally worth the money, we looked at several that were cheaper but they only opened 18" instead of 30ish and that was a huge decision making factor, carrying anything through the gate makes a wide opening a priority. We intend to buy another because we love this gate so much.

We have this one at the top of our stairs and a portable one at the bottom. We haven't had any issues with it.

No suggestions, but Yea for a new house!

I know the other thing that has bothered me with some gate with doors is the bottom ledge some sticks up more than others. Also very frustrating for an early walker. Some lay more flat to the floor (like a transition) and others are just a bar that you have to remember to step over!

Since there's the 20% off BRU F&F coupon right now, I want to buy our baby gates for the new place we're moving to in April (first place with stairs in my adult life- since the SORORITY HOUSE!)

I've seen a few posts about gates but none where people really say WHY they like the one they have. MIL's old house they had a gate on the stairs that went to the basement and I found the handle part frustrating, and it would often almost close, but then float back open. Important things to know with gates!

So... what do you have? Why do you like it? I'm interested in one that has tension and hardware mounts (plan to try tension first but ultimately probably hardware mount when the landlord clears the drilling of holes.) Since it's all light wood/carpet/white I'm looking for ones in light colors/white.

Thanks for the suggestions! I love hearing about WHY people love their gear!
