olive is 14 months old and she's in a music class. we started music class at 6 months. in the summer she is at the playground most of the day, but once it's cold she goes to indoor playspaces.

the place where she takes music class (like gymboree) has gym classes, art, classes, etc.

when charlie was young and not walking, he did singalongs, storytimes (library, barnes and noble, local cafes), indoor playspaces, and various classes.

At 17 months, we go to the library storytime and have been going since about 11 months. Babies younger than that are there, too. It's a really nice time for all ages. We also do a music class that's really great for babies about 6 months+ Soon he'll be too old for the baby class :(

One thing we held off on initially was baby gym classes. I took him to a free preview class, but there didn't seem to be a lot of point to it until he could walk. Now that he can walk/run it would probably be more fun, so I may reevaluate ... they are $$$, though!

We also recently joined a mom's group that has various outings. Ideally we get out of the house for some sort of activity every morning, or even just grocery shopping or whatever. It's a lot easier to do now that he's on one nap, and the mornings I don't get out with him I usually regret it, because 5-6 hours inside the house with a toddler is just looooong.

One thing I will say: I've enjoyed meeting other moms, but have found it hard to get beyond superficial friendships when everyone is busy wrangling small children. I hope that won't always be the case, but it's so hard to sustain more than a 5-minute conversation!

LO is 11 months old and she keeps pretty busy. She has 2 playgroup dates during the week. She also goes to baby art class and music class. we took a break from swimming because we moved but we found a baby swim school here in Beijing so she will be starting back up after the holidays. All of the activities are 1 hour or shorter and none of them interfere with her naps. They are all scheduled around her naps so it works perfectly.

We are currently doing a baby Picasso class once a week and it's awesome! In January we plan to start swimming lessons and hopefully do a play/Gymboree type class (it's a lottery so our name may not get drawn). I'm also going to look into library programs. I was always so hesitant to sign up for classes before because of lo's naps but since we have had a good schedule for the past couple of months it's easier to work around his naps.

From 6-12 months we did Mommy Baby Yoga once a week. Along with a couple playdates that was more than enough. Then 13-17 months we've been doing gymnastics- kind of like Gymboree but better. :) It's twice a week and LO loves it! He expends lots of energy so it guarantees me a good lunch and nap...haha...We're taking a break now from classes because I am very pregnant and can't really deal with helping him much, but my plan is to start him in swimming after Baby Brother is born.

Right now we just do library classes. Lo likes music classes the best, and we usually jump around to lots of different libraries so we can always find a class any day we are free and we don't have to worry about a set schedule .... and of course it being free is a big plus :)

We were going to a music class that we payed for but I didn't think it was worth it for lo's age. She didn't want to have anything to do with the class and just wanted to crawl around and would cry if I tried to make her pay attention and sit still. At the library they don't seem to care if she sits still.

My mom bought lo gymboree classes for chanukah. She'll love walking around there :)

It is one of those free doorway magazines at many of the local businesses, not sure if they have one for your area? It is packed with lots of ideas of things to do.

We go to baby yoga and love it! For the fall session my LO was in the baby class and for the winter session starting in January he'll be moving into the next level since he's almost crawling (eek!). This is the site I used to find a class/instructor near us: http://www.itsybitsyyoga.com/classes/find.html

My husband is also looking to do a swimming class with him, hopefully early next year.

We've done swim classes from 8 weeks old at a local swim school. It is a lot of fun to get the babies together and splash around (and of course teach them water skills). The best part was that it is free for babies under 6 months, we liked it so much that we decided to keep going with it.

I'm sad we have to miss it today because our house has come down with colds!

There wasn't much in our area for young babies besides that. Once they get older there are quite a few options, so we will be looking into that this summer once the weather gets bad again.

Subscribing!

I decided to forego classes for now because class times and locations don't work we'll with LO's naps. She's 7 months old and recently has gotten to where pushing one nap can throw her off for days. I'll probably try classes when she's a little more flexible again or when she drops to one nap. Right now we're just trying to schedule play dates with friends as much as possible.

Is your LO in any groups or classes? For example, swimming, musical classes or something like a Gymboree class? Maybe a play group every week or a story time at the library? I'm trying to round up some ideas for LO in a few months, mostly right now so I can meet other moms! What does your LO do and when did you start?
