my DD is a super strong sucker. she sucked like a hoover for the whole session. I ended up just getting use to it, I wanted to say my nipples grew callouses LOL

It definitely hurt when I first started breastfeeding her, but then again it could have been a latch issues. The pain stopped after a month.

YUP!! They told me the same thing when I was in the hospital. I was in the hospital for 7 days with LO due to other complications so I was able to see the lactation nurse a few times.
They had me push through it and just keep BF.

LO sucks so hard and is such a comfort sucker. If she spits her paci out she will suck on her arm and she gives hersefly hickeys because she sucks so hard. She is just over 9 weeks old now and I want to say around the 8 week mark it started to not hurt as bad. Honestly after awhile it just feels like they go numb and I cant feel anything. I have one side that still seems to be more sensative than the other.

Best of luck. I know how much it HURTS. Hang in there. You can do it!

Same here. It helped when I got a really good latch but I was just sore for a long time. Not painful sore but still. It eventually worked itselfout and we're going strong at 9mo!

Yeah those were a trying few weeks. Every doc or LC we saw commented 'wow, she's got such a strong suck.' I toughed (read cried) it out and by three weeks my nipples were used to her hoover. But oh man the pain...and then we got thrush.
I figure I had only ever used them recreationally and they were called up to the big leagues - that's bound to hurt.

It does get better and now BFing is such a breeze.

My Lo also had a super strong suck. I would just give your breasts time to adjust. Tbh I don't know why an LC would say that you wouldn't be able to nurse because Of that though...? Don't get discouraged and just give it time. :)

My baby was like that too. My nipples blistered and were very painful in the beginning and the LC said there wasn't anything I could do but let my nipples adjust. It was a rough first couple of weeks, but it did get better. Much better. At 4 mo it's still a little uncomfortable, but not painful per se. Now she stokes and pats me while nursing and it is so sweet and special, I'm really glad I persisted. Good luck!!!

Did anybody's baby have a super crazy strong suck? The LC consultant called her a Hoover sucker. I tried breastfeeding in the hospital and it was insanely awfully painful and the LC said I might need the negative pressure of my milk to come in before I can breastfeed. She also warned me that it may not be possible at all with a baby that sucks so strong-that while it sounds ideal, it may simply be too painful. She advised I pump for now, which I've been doing every 3 hours during the day and I can go one six hour stretch at night.

Did anybody else's baby suck TOO strong? How'd it work out? My milk should come in today probably. It's been a milky yellow color the past 24 hours. I realize I may be an exclusive pumper and I'm ok with that, too-I love watching DH feed her :). So I will do both if I can.. She takes a bottle just fine in the special care nursery, thankfully! Just wondering if this is a common thing or not and how it worked out for some
