Mine does this too, especially in the morning when I move her from her bassinet in our room to her change table.
I always thought babies would be carried in a lovely cradle position close to my body but nope.
She ends up stiff as a board carried out in front of me. One hand under her neck and the other under the bum.
We call it planking too :)

DD still does this, especially after a diaper change before I put on a new diaper. She's 15 months. We call it planking as well.

@deerylou: hahaha, a smiling 2x4!!! R still does this occasionally. She also likes to stretch her head and legs back and her belly out when I pick her up sometimes. It's awkward.

S does this either when she's bring held horizontally or when being stood up but still held. I didn't think anything of it and assumed it was normal behaviour, lol!

I'm glad others have experienced this! I figured it was some sort of developmental thing, but just wanted to be sure. Boy, is it hilarious.

E did it a ton, too, and still does! Just learning how her body works I think :)

My LO used to do this too, I think it's just a developmental thing when they are figuring out how their muscles work!

DD is 11 weeks, and in the last week or so, she's been discovering that she has more control over her body. She rolled for the first time, has been holding her head up while on her belly for much longer durations, and exploring her hands and feet far more often.

However, she has also been, for lack of a better term, "planking" her body. She has been doing it when feeding, getting a diaper change, or simply just chilling on her activity mat. She just becomes stiff as a board and extends her limbs straight and firm. Sometimes, I'll walk her across the room, and it is as if I'm carrying a smiling 2x4. She eventually relaxes and bends her body, but it's slightly odd.

What the heck is she doing and should I be at all concerned?
