@Mae: Hahaha I am working my way up then! It wasn't bad when she was sitting up... But now she stands up, then attempts to cruise/walk around and sometimes her whole body just flies backwards lol

@snowjewelz: It is sad... but your'e just getting started! That period between when they learn how to sit up and when they learn how to walk (well) is just a blur of them falling over and hurting themselves. It's impossible to stop. It really freaked me out for a couple of weeks but I got over it. And so did LO. Even at 15 mo she is still finding new and exciting ways to hurt herself. She learned how to crawl on the couch last week and now she is trying to crawl over the back of the couch and fall on her head. Not to mention pulling tables over on herself, climbing bookcases, etc. My threshold for "give-a-shit" has raised from "will it make her sad" to "will it land us in the ER?" lol

@Mae: Good to hear! I was going back and forth too, and don't really feel like spending the money on something temporary! It's heart breaking though to hear those initial thuds and then wailing, even for a few secs!

@snowjewelz: Yea this was a really brief problem. We never did put anything on her crib and it was fine. Now she is 15mo and sleeps in a sleep sack and runs around her crib like a crazy person when she wakes up. Sometimes she trips over her sleep sack and bonks herself and she doesn't even care anymore. I think occasional bonks made her a tough kid ;)

@Mae: So everything worked out and you didn't need to buy anything? My 8, almost 9 mo old is in this stage now, but she is not really in her crib much (we cosleep at night) and get her when she wakes up from naps...

@BabyTsMom: the period of her doing it a lot was only a few days. She is still obsessed with standing in her crib and occasionally falls and bonks herself but it's pretty rare now. Like once per week maybe. I never did a bumper or anything.

@BabyTsMom: yeah it was honestly a few months til she got over the fun of standing in the crib. it felt like ages but I'm sure it was 2 or 3 months. I put it in her room just near her crib and put her to sleep in that. she was a bit apprehensive at first/excited but she got over it fairly quickly. I was just glad she could fall safely without knocking herself out!

@Mae: So how long did this phase last for your LO? Did you end up putting any sort of bumper or anything? Mine just discovered this today and in the 20 minutes he was playing in his crib while I cleaned up his room, he fell four times and bonked his head, crying every time.
Ordinarily, I wouldn't be so worried but of course with my preoccupation with his sleep, I'm worried that he'll wake up moon or start waking up super early in the morning......

@FannyMae: great idea! so was it really months that you put her in a travel crib? I may just resort to this. Did she seem to mind the change in sleeping location?

@Mae: we would hear some babbling, then a loud THUD and screaming, wailing hysterics. it sure must have hurt! the travel cot was an absolute lifesaver, she could bop her head and squish her face on the mesh sides as much as she liked

@FannyMae: ugh I'm dreading the standing! I mean I know she isn't getting seriously injured but I'm sure those bumps hurt! She certainly cries like they do.

This was a big issue for me when my LO was about 9 months, I had the "airwrap" bumpers, but it was more she was standing up, then falling and whacking her head on the uncovered bits of the crib. In the end, I put her into a travel crib for a few weeks (months? I can't remember!) until she got over the excitement of standing up.

I 100% agree with @catomd00: - both of our los figured it out and it wasn't an issue for long. Before you know it she won't be falling or she'll be more controlled in her fall.

I just let my LO figure it out. She's smacked her head falling from standing a handful of times and only cried for a few seconds once I got her. I don't think its anything to be overly worried about. I didn't think the individual slat pads were worth it, personally.

My LO keeps rotating in the crib and bumps her head so I just put in the regular crib bumpers last night.

They sell bumpers that you can wrap around the individual crib slats.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00373X6SA/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00373X6SA&linkCode=as2&tag=bby-8754sc-20

I'm sure you could also make them or find them less expensively somewhere else.

So LO just figured out that she could sit up in her crib last week. The problem is that she tends to fall backwards when she is done sitting up. And she keeps smacking her head (hard) on the crib sides and then waiiiils. I know this is why people used to use padded crib bumpers, but that those are now considered dangerous. And that they say injuries babies get from bumping into cribs aren't serious enough to mitigate the risk of the padded bumpers. But it's so sad!

Is there anything else we can do? I hate watching her hurt herself several times daily and she already has a little bruise on the back of her head :(
