I'd make a little corner in the master bedroom for baby, if we were in a one bedroom. Shouldn't be too big of a deal.

@Mrsbells: haha, no, the changing table doesn't smell, unless he pees or poops on it. I meant the diaper pail, which most people keep near the changing table.

Thanks for all the responses.. I've been discussing it further with my husband and I think we will just stay put until the baby is a year old and then move to a bigger place.
@looch Does the actual changing table have a diaper smell? We plan to keep out diaper pail in the bathroom but I dont think the actual changing table itself will retain a diaper smell.

We were in a 1BR when my daughter was born, and then lived in a temporary housing while buying a house. So bascially a 1BR until my daughter was 13 months old.

Honestly, I wouldn't have changed it. In the beginning having them in a bassinet in your room is convenient. Plus you do save a lot of money not decorating a nursery.

Once we purchased our house, where we will be for at least the next decade, I could really take my time and pick nursery stuff- knowing that I wouldn't be moving and didn't have to worry about stuff working in a new place.

I would say that unless your landlord will take pity on your and get you out of your lease early and you can find something better with 2BRs, that you just stay put.

We're planning on keeping our one bedroom for at least another year and a half. We'll keep the crib in our room, but if that doesn't work out, we'll put the baby to sleep in our room and move it to the living room when we go to bed. My Hubs' boss is talking about helping us buy a house, and there are a few two bedroom condos in our building so we're thinking about moving about 18 months from now. Even if we get pregnant this cycle, that really only means about 8 months with a baby in the room with us.

Looking back, there's no way we could have done it without 2 bedrooms. While I was on maternity leave, my husband had to go to work, so for a while I slept in the nursery. We had originally had him bunking with us in our room, but we were all sleeping like crap, so I moved our son to his crib in his room and slept on a bed we have in there.

Our changing table is in the bathroom, there's no way I could keep it in the nursery, I am paranoid about diaper stink where he sleeps.

Thanks for all the feedback, we definitely do have th empty dining room as a possible place for the baby's crib if she/he turns out to be a noisey sleeper. But other than that I think we will just play it by ear... and see what happens. I can find out what landlords would say about a shorter lease, I have no idea how they would react to that, but I guess it doesnt hurt to ask.

Can you talk to your landlords and see if they will do a shorter lease for you once yours is up (either month to month or 6 months or something)? Often when you're able to give them that kind of notice, and do it nicely, they are more likely willing to do shorter leases.

I don't think it's a necessity to move. I can not sleep with my daughter in my bedroom because she is such a noisy sleeper but it sounds like you could put the crib in the dining room if that turns out to be the case?

I dont think we'll mind having the crib in our room. Even if we had a second bedroom we would still keep the crib in our room for the first coupe of months to make it easier to feed the baby at night

my brother lived in a 1 bedroom (he just moved to a 2/3 bedroom condo). he was there when my nephew was born. they shared a room with the nephew for a year, so it's definitely doable. but they knew it wouldn't be for long.

as long as you guys don't mind sharing the crib in the same room (both of you may wake up over any single noise)...

If you have plenty of space in your 1 bed, I would just stay and not move. Do you plan on putting the crib in the dining room?
Are you planning on co-sleeping or having the baby in the bedroom with you?

My husband's a light sleeper and he was working, so I didn't want him to wake up whenever the baby woke up. For the first few weeks I slept in the baby's room with her.

We are in a one bedroom condo. I am 18 weeks pregnant and dont see where we will find the space for all the baby things! Our lease is up the month AFTER our baby is due, I think we will live in a mess until we have the energy and time to find a two bedroom or atleast a one bedroom with lots more space! Ive known a few couples who live in a one bedroom for quite sometime after they have a baby and they have made it work, a little cramped but a newborn doesnt require much play area!

Were any of you living in a one bedroom apartment or house when you had your baby. we currently live in a one bedroom apartment and when we found out we were expecting we decided to move into a 2 bedroom place but our lease is up the same month that I'm due and I dont think I wanna be dealing with moving with a week old baby. We do have lots of space and the dining room is basically empty because we don thave a dining table and even if we decide to buy one we would place it in the kitchen since theres so much space in there. I cant decide if its worth moving to a new place right when I'm due or if we should just stay another year here.
