I have one...plastic toys! I thought I'd be so good about sustainable wooden toys with nontoxic stains or fabric playthings crafted by hand, but it hasn't happened. Part of it is price, honestly. I wish it weren't so.

@highwire/@artbee:: Same here...we're hoping just to be able to sell it/return it fast, but we got a swing just in case, got some pacis even though I hope not to use them, registered for a stroller and a Moby wrap and Ergo (even though I plan on primarily baby-wearing, and getting a crib even though we have a mini-bassinet beside our bed already and I want to EBF but I have a pump (a hand-me-down). I wish I was psychic, but I have no idea what LO will want/need, so I want to have the whole shebang easily accessible.

I have zero rules in this department. I have no idea what the baby is going to want/like/need so bring on the ugly baby gyms, bottles, pacis, whatever. Most of these things have come to us via hand-me-downs, and we'll just pass on whatever the baby doesn't end up needing.

I gave in to what I didn't want even before LO came. I said no paci for my LO, but then decided I wanted one just in case. I didn't want to have to rush out in the middle of the night to get one.

@Mrs. Superhero: I bought so many swaddles, so many - because all my friends swore by them. And the Happiest Baby book. But my son HATED being swaddled. When I would swaddle him was the only time he'd really cry, it was awful. I should've known by the ultrasound where they couldn't get his hands off his face no matter how much they jiggled my belly, that this boy would want his hands/arms out.

Yeah, swing for me as well. This time around it was sleep sacks. I didn't use them with my toddler so I thought they weren't necessary. Until Wonder Baby started trying to strangle herself with her muslin blanket. Oh thaaats why people buy them!

When I was pregnant, registered at BRU and preparing for my LO, I absolutely did not want any swing/bouncer/babygym, etc. I thought that I would always babywear so I registered for the Ergo & accessories, the wraps and slings and I didn't want a high-end stroller.
Along came DS and he hated to be swaddled or in anything that resembled a swaddle or blocked his face - like a sling/Ergo, etc. He LOVED the stroller and seeing everything.
He also loved to be moving constantly, so I caved and bought a swing (and a friend graciously gave us a bouncer) to keep him entertained.
I also thought I would have DS in the crib immediately and didn't prepare to have a bassinet at my bedside.

It's funny the things you want or think you want vs. the things that baby wants.

Has this happened to any of you?
