LO is 16 months and doesn't drink juice. She's had some diluted prune juice during a bout of constipation, but other than that she drinks water and milk.

DS is 15 months and hasn't had juice. I'm not saying he never will but I think juice should be an occational thing not an every time I'm thirsty thing.

Just say NO to juice!! lol!! I agree with PP's. DD has had juice a handful of times, it's always watered down and it's almost always because of constipation issues. My doc is super anti juice and at every checkup re-inforces her stance "NO JUICE!!" DD drinks almond milk and water only.

LO has had an ounce of pear juice each day since she was 8 weeks due to constipation. Not sure when we will introduce more but probably not for a while - she is 12 weeks now.

My LO is 2 and she still doesn't get juice, unless she has constipation issues, then she'll get watered down juice. When my LO had diarrhea and needed fluids we gave her pedialyte.

@hellocupcake: My pediatrician tested for iron levels at her 9 month appointment but I know some got tested at their 12 month. Definitely something worth asking your pediatrician about. I was borderline during pregnancy. My LO had pretty severe anemia but it was mainly due to having thalassemia trait. It took almost 9 months of the highest doses of iron supplement plus a intense iron fortified diet to bring her levels up to a healthy -for her- level.

@locavore_mama: I always feel so weird disagreeing with the nurse, I feel like that's their job to know what's best. I feel so much better knowing there are other moms who agree that juice isn't necessary. Thank you (: The orange juice helps with absorbing iron?! I need to keep that in mind. I was anemic pre-baby and I'm scared LO will be too. /:

@T.H.O.U.: I don't think she's dehydrated, she's having a regular amount if wet diapers. I think it worries me to not know exactly how much she's eating/drinking. I can tell she's not eating as much since I've been getting full faster than usual. I will definitely try cucumber or lemon water, that's an awesome alternative and I feel silly for not thinking of it (:

@sorrycharlie: @sumer08: @looch: thank you. Juice is so common among my mommy friends but I really don't feel comfortable giving her unnecessary sugar. I've been overly aware of how unhealthy we eat on general, I want to try to give her a better start (: I'm just glad I'm not the only one who has denied my baby juice. Ps. I will definitely keep the juice in mind to help with constipation. We haven't had that problem yet, but very good to know (: thanks again.

@hellocupcake: I have to disagree with the nurse. I agree that at 8 months she can be having water. But not so much so it hinders bfing. I offered prune juice around then because of constipation. But it was 100% juice and the ratio was like 1:10 juice to water. Even now at almost 16 months my LO might get orange juice a few times a week. But that is to increase iron absorption. I juice my own and still mix with water.

My son didn't have juice before he was 2, so don't feel like you need to give it to yours. If there is constipation, try feeding
fruits that begin with p.

Not at all! Don't feel bad at all about not offering her any juice. Honestly, my LO is turning 12 months this week, and he's never had a sip of juice yet. I don't plan on introducing it to him until he's a little older.

I agree with @T.H.O.U. about possibly adding a few drops of juice to her water, or offering her something like cucumber water.

We started juice around 6 months because dd was constipated. Sometimes I give her prune if she's backed up but I don't offer it on a regular basis or anything..occasional juice didn't do anything to her :)

No! Please do not feel the need to give her juice. BM is great for her right now and a few sips of water is all she needs. Is she deyhdrated? If you are having trouble getting liquids in to keep her hydrated while she is sick, I could understand adding a few drops of juice to some water to see if she would drink it better. I have also made cucumber/lemon/strawberry water (float the fruit in the water) and that adds flavor without so much sugar. If she is sick, the last thing I would want to do is load her up with sugar that she isn't used to and upset her stomach.

At what age did you introduce juice to your LO?
How often do you offer them juice?
What kind of juice (baby, regular, homemade), and what favors?!

So many questions. I was generally under the impression that juice is liquid sugar, so at 8 months we still haven't offered her any. However, she has been sick these past couple days and we called the nurse to see what she recommends. She asked of we had been offering her enough fluids and I said we ebf but offer water on occasion. She urged us to go ahead and offer juice. Am I being ridiculous to not be giving her juice already? I figure I would give her juice when she's old enough to ask for a little here and there, not really this young. Should I just start offering juice? How often? Why am I stressing about juice?! Haha
