I felt my first kick around 18ish weeks. I was laying on my side in bed and felt taps--couldn't have been anything else. They will be lower down than your stomach/intestines and mine were mainly on the side at first. I had been trying/hoping to feel kicks for a week or two beforehand, but that was the first time I was positive about it.

I felt *something* around 17-18 weeks, but was never sure if it was kicks or not. It felt like how @ladyfingers: described it - like a goldfish swimming around. I didn't feel a definite kick until probably 20-21 weeks. And I do not have an anterior placenta.

I started feeling him "maybe" around 16 weeks. Felt like gas bubbles and sorta flutters. Or muscle spasms. I was having a lot of gas but I guess the difference was I would feel a pop then not pass anything :) described it to my doc and he said it was probably the baby. It became more unmistakeable but still faint and inconsistent around 18 weeks. He developed a pattern and started kicking hard enough for me to feel him on the outside around 22-23 weeks.

Another way I used to describe the early movements was like a goldfish swimming around :)

@jedeve - I get those too! Guess that's why it is kind of confusing.

@photojane - That's a nice way to think of it! :) In fact sometimes I talk to her and I start feeling more twitches.

i'll be 23 weeks tomorrow, and i still barely feel anything. i've only felt her actually kick me one time. it's more like muscle twitches or waves through my belly. i've decided that she's just graceful and polite, and doesn't like to beat up on mommy. :)

Mine felt like muscle twitches. I get them in my legs a lot too, so I wasn't sure if it was baby. But once they got more regular I knew that's what it was. Also like gas bubbles before you fart that never turn into anything.

@heartsunshine - I love your explaination! I definitely have had those twitching and muscle spasm feelings A LOT lately!

Bubbles - yes. Fluttering - several weeks ago. Popping - yes.

Overall, I think I MUST be feeling kicks, but maybe our baby is just not that strong yet. Or short (opposite of @TidyBee)
This morning I felt some definite pops and I think she is trying to let me know "Hey! I AM in here!" lol

Sometimes I feel a weird sensation too and my abdomen will get hard in a spot for a short bit. I told DH I think she must be turning then?

I had a posterior placenta and felt the first "bubbles" at around 18 weeks. I didn't feel real kicks until around 20 weeks...and even then they were light and irregular. By 24 weeks they were much stronger and other people could feel them. 19 weeks is still pretty early, I wouldn't worry at all!

What it felt like for me was like when you have an "involuntary muscle spasm" or "twitch" like Tidybee said as well as a "bubble popping sensation" if that makes sense. I didn't feel the "butterflies". I started feeling these around 17 weeks, they only get stronger lol and then you'll know it's baby moving.

I also felt my first kicks pretty early - just after 16 weeks. When I told my doctor, she didn't really believe me, suggesting it's earlier than the norm. We found out at the anatomy scan that our baby's legs were measuring 3 weeks ahead for length so maybe that's why I felt it so early. The first kick was unmistakable It felt like a muscle twitch.

I have An anterior placenta so I didn't feel kicks until like 21 weeks and by that time they weren't flutters, they felt like full on kicks. I actually think I felt hiccups first because they were very rhythmic and noticeable. Kicks feel like big gas bubbles without the pain and the gas!

Around. 18 weeks was when I noted I definitely felt baby kicks. I thought for a week or two prior that's what it was, but wasn't sure.

In the beginning it felt just like bubbles in my belly. I sometimes got the flutter thing - but mostly bubbles! They never hurt in the beginning (not till later/now that he's so big) I'm almost 39 weeks.

But everyone is different! If you have anterior placenta you won't feel anything for a little longer... And, some babies move more than others I think. I have a crazy man in there who loves to move all of the time so I feel like I felt him pretty early.

I felt my first kick at almost 21 weeks. I have an anterior placenta so that's why it took longer. The first ones felt like a soft little nudge and it was unmistakably a kick. I only felt it twice on that first day, and then I started feeling more and more each day. I know a lot of people say their first kicks feel like fluttering or popping, but I never felt that.

I actually started getting Braxton-Hicks contractions several weeks before I felt kicking, and I thought it was the baby moving until I started feeling real kicks.

I've been increasingly wondering and doubting myself whether or not I have actually felt baby kick yet. Was reading an old thread and it seems most women on here felt their first baby kicks around 16 weeks. I'm 19 weeks today and still don't know for sure if anything I've felt are actual kicks?!?! Sometimes I think they are kicks, but then, maybe they are round ligament pains or indigestion?
So, once in a while, I will feel a little "pop" or a sharp pain that isn't really painful (an oxymoron, I know). Other times, I feel like a rumble in my tummy or like my stomach is starting to hurt. But since it's always on my sides (usually right side), I figure they must be stretching pains.

So please tell me: What did your baby kicking feel like in the beginning for you?
