We are doing a combination of baby led weaning and purees. We send purees to daycare and make sure to offer them in the evening (it makes him sleep longer). But we also give him the opportunity to play with his food. He will eat anything and adores meat. Last night we had Tilapia and sweet peas and pea puree. He has had broccoli, turkey, chicken, pears, apples, cucumber, squash, squash ravioli, green beans, and peas.

We started with purees (six months) but are planning to mix in some BLW as well. I'd love to know what first foods worked well for BLW!

My daughter is only 5 months old so technically too young for BLW but we're somewhat doing it anyways. My daughter is pretty small and does not show a huge interest in bottles but has definitely shown interest in food so we were going to start her on purees at about 4.5 months (based on talks with our pedi) but she absolutely hated pretty much any puree I gave her, particularly applesauce and bananas. We were out at a restaurant and she was staring down my food so I mushed up a pear (real soft but not quite a puree texture) and gave it to her and she loved it. We now do this with most of our foods. I'm feeding her right now because her grasp hasnt fully developed but because the food still requires her to chew etc I believe this will definitely help us when it comes time to fully start BLW.

i want to try baby led weaning with this baby. even though i wanted to with charlie, he had such a sensitive gag reflex that he didn't really start eating solids until he was like 19 months old.

tofu cubes sprinkled with cheerios dust is a good option, as are little cheese cubes and pasta.

we did this but not on purpose - my son didn't like purees or didn't like being fed. either way we had to start on finger foods. at around 8 months.

i used to buy those frozen mixed vegetables that had carrots, peas and corn with cut up pasta. he also loves canned green beans but i rinse them first. he is 13 months now so i just give him cut up whatever we are eating...meatballs, chicken, tacos. his favorite is pasta though and i cook it very soft so he doesn't have a problem.

how many of you here are doing baby led weaning? when did you start and what foods do you feed your baby?

my daughter is 8-months now and we started off with homemade purees at 6-months, but at 7-months i decided to give BLW a go... and now we do BLW for breakfast and still feed her purees in the afternoon so we kinda do a mix-match of both. for breakfast i feed her stuff like scrambled egg yolks, sliced apples, whole wheat toast with pureed spread... easy to hold stuff.
