Another thing I used to do in the beginning was use my chunky purees as a spread on toast... that way they get their veggies and grains in one. I would cut the toast into finger-length pieces so she could easily grab and hold.

We've been doing BLW since she was 7-8 months too! She's such a great eater now at 14-months.

Some other ideas for you:
- Scrambled eggs (before 1-year we only scrambled egg yolks)
- "Jam sushi" - I flatten the bread really thin, spread a thin layer of jam, then roll it up and cut into pieces. Easy for them to grab and not too messy.
- Steamed veggies (green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, etc)
- Mini quiches - just eggs, veggies, and a bit of shredded cheese in a muffin tin and bake.
- Mini pitas with hummus
- Mini quesadillas
- Shredded rotisserie chicken
- Homemade fish sticks
- Whole wheat pasta (rotini is easy to hold) with marinara sauce
- Bites of whatever we're eating!

after about a month of DD #2 disliking purees, I gave in and gave BLW a shot a few weeks ago. I was skeptical at first because I was scared of choking... However she gets really soft foods and I see that she is learning to chew then swallow. It's really fun and a relief to see her learning to eat this way! Would love to heat more tips and food ideas from other BLW moms...

So far DD really likes bananas, avocado, sweet potato, pears, mum mums and Happy Baby veggie/cheese puffs!

We did this... Little Jacks took very little solids until a year of age. We would cut whole grain waffles into sticks, and that was one thing she enjoyed.

Thanks everyone. We started giving him only finger food and he loves it. It is VERY messy but lots of fun to see him explore new tastes and new textures with his hands.

This is really working for us but it does take patience and a lot of clean up. : )

What I've learned with Baby Led weaning is that sometimes what DS will have eaten in a puree, he won't touch as finger food, so it takes a little bit of extra time and patience to get them to be able to get their caloric and nutritional requirements.

Purees are totally easy to prepare and I spent a lot of time worrying about my puree system, when I should have been planning what to do for finger foods. I love weelicious.com for recipes.

How fun! We just started solids... but I am looking forward to finger foods. Can't wait to hear everyone's advice!

My DD likes her food nice & puréed but we have been letting her try with small pieces of banana, avocado, etc. I think the variation you have been using is good & I know I've read that trying different foods, even ones that may not be a popular item one day but could be popular the next, is a great way to develop their palettes.

We've kinda tried to let her be able to feed herself. She's better at the spoon than with her hand. If she has finger food she just usually plays with it, the spoon usually gets to her mouth.

My almost 8 month old has decided that baby food isn't that interesting so we are starting Baby Led Weaning and just giving him finger foods.

We already give him Mum Mums, puffs, and yogurt drops so we are now putting cheese sticks, cut up fruit and veggies, and toast on his high chair tray and letting him try things.

Has anyone tried this? Any tips?
