@Silva: at 1 both my boys started the transition to one nap. Generally they need to go down about 2.5 hours after wake up - so 10am for us since we wake up around 730am. I cap this nap at 1 hour so they are up by 11am. Then I nap them 2.5 hours later at 130pm and let them sleep as long as they want (usually up by 4) and then we do a 730pm bedtime. The morning nap gets shortened and the PM nap brought earlier eventually until we do 1 nap at 1130am that eventually gets pushed to 12 or 1230.

Right now my youngest is 14 months and he does a 30 minute nap at 10am and then he goes down at 1pm with DS1 for his PM nap.

I will say there is a regression around this age and so they take longer to settle for bedtime.

My 6 month old is a bit like this, and I honestly have no qualms waking her up from naps. She usually does her last nap from 2 or 2:30 to 4 or 4:30 and unless something else about her schedule has been really thrown off, I always wake her up by 4:30 at the latest. She goes 3 to 3.5 hours awake before bed time. If we screw with awake time/bed time she has a more restless night. I think what makes me fine with waking her is that, yeah, she looks soooo peaceful and cozy when sleeping, but she's also usually happy when she wakes up and sees me and she's not upset about being woken. You said your son is always happy so as long as he isn't screaming and fussy to be woken up, I'd think it's fine? I usually end of waking DD from her morning nap, too, so we can get the 2 hour gap between morning and afternoon nap.

@erinbaderin: this is helpful. It just goes against everything that was true with my daughter, and I hate waking him up. But it's really helpful to hear that some babies just need that to stay on a schedule. This kid is never unhappy, no matter what. Maybe I'm just looking for things to worry about 😉

My 8 month old needs to be woken from her naps as well. We usually put her down for her first nap around 8:45 am and wake her at 11. The second nap starts around 1:45 or 2 and we wake her 4. Bedtime is at 7 p.m. With my older guy, he wasn't ready for a single nap until about 18 months. If your LO is happy once he is woken up and you know he is getting enough sleep, I'd try not to worry about it. It's a better problem to have than the kid who fights sleep and is constantly irritable!

My 14 mos old is like this on the weekend. He wants all the naps and is making up for the sleep he doesn't get at daycare, which is one 2-2.5 hour nap.

We let him wake up naturally, which could be anywhere from 6 to 7 am. Around 8:30- 9 am he's ready for a nap. I let him sleep for 2 hours if he doesn't wake up before. Sat swim classes has interfered with his AM nap a bit. Then he takes an afternoon nap around 1:30-2:00 pm. If we let him he would sleep for many hours, but we let him rest for 2-2.5 hours. Bedtime is 8 pm.

My son is similar to yours - he's a great sleeper, always has been. It sounds like the 2-3-4 schedule is what you need, and you just need to wake him up from naps to keep him on it (which I know is hard! I hate to do it, both because he looks so adorable all cuddled up and because I like the free time). W goes down around 8:30 and we wake him up at 10, then he goes down around 1:30 and we don't let him sleep later than 4, which for him is as late as he can go without messing up his 7 bedtime. We're on more of a 2.5/3.5/whatever's left schedule because we've found that it works for him. Especially if you have a hard bedtime that you want to stick to, I think you might need to do wake-ups. How's his mood when you have to wake him up?

@Silva: Maybe you could make up some guidelines for yourself around waking him. Naps can go to 10:30am and no later than 3:30pm, then you can still do bedtime 4 hours later at 7:30. I know we run into a similar problem with Lily when first nap ends too late. Luckily she's fairly flexible, but I also like her and DS to both takes naps at 1pm. Otherwise we're trading on and off naps all day.

@ShootingStar: we are planning to do CIOin two weeks when my husband has time off. He only takes bottles a ton bed and then at the first wake up now- About 5 ounces in each. I nurse him for subsequent wake ups so he gets a little bit i know that's just habit.
2-3-4 was working for us for ever and I love it but sometimes he naps for so long (like right now, he's been asleep since 8 and it's 10:30) that 2-3-4 becomes hard to manage.

@FaithFertility: so I know I can't have it all but I really can't do a late bedtime. I'm trying to work backward from a 7 on bedtime

Up at 6
Nap 8-10
Nap 1-3
Bed at 7

That was our jam for a long time, but lately it's been all off- like sometimes it takes forever for him to fall asleep for one of the naps, or he sleeps in. I guess I'm wondering if maybe I should do a schedule by time (like, you wake up at 3 no matter what) instead of by nap duration?

We try to do roughly a 2-3-4 with DD. She has a similar schedule to your DS. So on weekends for us it looks kinda like:

6am - awake
8am - nap
10am - wake up
1pm - nap
3pm - wake up
7pm - start bedtime, usually asleep by 7:30.

I know you've struggled with this, but I would absolutely cut off his night time feeds. Either let him CIO or have DH feed him a bottle with some water in it. He's waking out of habit and because he knows he'll get fed.

Maybe actually trying to let him sleep the
3 hrs first nap so he would sleep....
8:30-11:30
Then nap again
2:30-4:30/5:30
Try bed routine starting at 8:30 and finish with bed at 9?!
Some say sleep brings sleep
Worth a shot

Which you wouldn't think would be a problem, yet here I am again.

My almost 1-year old loves to nap. He had always and consistently taken long naps. Has also never slept through the night. Currently wakes up 2-3 times. He nurses or takes a bottle and goes right back down.

So, naps. He will typically take a nap two hours after waking up for the day (usually he's up around 6-6:30). He will generally sleep at least two hours. I've been sometimes waking him after 1.5-2 but I feel awful because he seems so cozy. He goes for his second nap about 3.5 hours later and again, I wake him after two hours asleep.
I think this is where we've been running into issues- he needs 4 hours between waking up from his afternoon nap and going to bed a time night- so he's bee having some trouble falling asleep at night lately which is unlike him.
When I do one nap (like if we are out and about) he goes down completely exhausted at 11:30 and sleeps for three hours. The problem with doing this every day is that sometimes he's clearly way too tired to go that long.

What kind of a schedule should I try? How long do I let him sleep? He's so cute, it breaks my heart to wake him up from every single nap.
