I gained around 60lb with each baby. My first measured average the whole time (she was 7lb 12oz at birth). My son measured big, especially towards the end. I had a planned c-section with him and I was ten days overdue and he was 10lb 2oz! Everyone in the operating room told me to be grateful I had not attempted a vbac :silly:
I will be honest, I ate terribly in my pregnancies but felt nauseous the whole time so chocolate was often the most appealing. I didn't have GD either time. Ten pounders are standard in my family  I'm not sure I could have for much to control his weight, but if we are lucky enough to have another, I will try eat better, just in case.

@FliegepilzHut: I know it's hard, but try not to worry too much. I had a million ultrasounds due to IVF pregnancy, then they found something in the baby called mega cisterna magna (turned out to be nothing).

From my anatomy scan on he was always measuring 1-2 weeks ahead. I gained about 35 lbs total, no GD. The day I was induced (a week early due to IVF pregnancy) he was measuring 9-10 lbs. They had a huge team of docs there at delivery in case he got stuck

I had a successful vaginal delivery with 1.5 hours of pushing. I got the epidural because pitocin suuuucks. DS was 8lbs 13oz but he was long - 22 inches. Not nearly as big as they predicted!

:goodluck:

With my first i measured on time until the end. At 40 weeks I was measuring 43. I had gained 40lbs. My son ended up being 9lb7oz. But I think his weight was a little inflated due to all the fluids I got during my induction.

This pregnancy has been a bit different. I have gained 4lbs at 33 weeks, but my belly is really big. At 27 weeks I was measuring 33 weeks. At 30 weeks I was measuring 35 weeks and now at 32 weeks (this weeks appointment three days ago) I was still measuring 35 weeks. I don't have GD. My midwife isn't concerned and said that baby looks fine and that she is just really high. She isn't into my pelvis at all. Combine that with a short torso, and the human error factor, and she thinks all will be well. I'll add, I'm NOT expecting to have a small baby. I was 8.5 pounds and my husband was 11.5 (his poor poor poor mom)!

I measured ahead my entire pregnancy. I gained 33 lbs total. They sent me in for additional ultrasounds at 36-37 weeks and 39 weeks to check her size. They guessed by the ultrasounds that she would be about 8 pounds even though I was measuring ahead. They were a little off. I delivered my big girl via cesarean at 41 weeks and she was 9 lb 14 oz and 22 inches.

@Ms.Badger: This is very reassuring to me!

@Tanjowen: That sounds like a pretty good plan...I need to ask my OB what she would recommend if baby is measuring BIG at term (she has recommended another growth US)!

DS1 measured large from early on and I gained about 40 pounds and was super swollen. He was 10 lbs 9 oz at 39 weeks. I didn't attempt vaginal and scheduled a c section when it was clear he was rather large (I had an ultrasound at 37 weeks which showed him at 9 lbs 3 oz) and I'm small framed.

Second pregancy I had GD and gained about 30 pounds. DS2 was 7 lbs and change at 37+5. I had weekly ultrasounds because of the GD and he always measured average. I may have developed GD later on in my 1st pregnancy and just not known. We'll never know.

DH was 10+ pounds at birth so it wasn't a total shocker.
I was an average size baby.

I gained 32 lbs by the end (most of it in the 2nd tri), measured 1-2 weeks ahead on every scan, and birthed a 9 lb, 14 oz baby vaginally. Both DH and I were about 8.5 lbs at birth I was very nervous because they kept telling me he was measuring large, but the doctor assigned to me had the attitude of, "Let's try, and that's why we have C-section as a backup!"

We had a lot of U/S because Harry had an "enlarged bladder" or "thickened bladder wall" (turns out it was nothing)-- he was always measuring ahead, and towards the middle of my 3rd trimester, the U/S tech estimated he weighed around 7 lbs. My OB said that those measurements are always off, and to take it with a grain of salt.

H was born at 41+1 and weighed 10 lbs 12 oz. Char was "only" 8 lb 15 oz when she was born... needless to say, everyone was shocked! I gained about 30 lbs with each pregnancy.

Your situation sounds super similar to mine. I had multiple follow up ultrasounds due to possible kidney issue that turned out to be nothing. Baby's Abnormin circumference was around 90%ile in all ultrasounds but one predicting a big baby. GTT results were very low after 1 hour test. Had a growth ultrasound around 38 weeks which predicted the baby was about 8 lbs. Had J at 39+5 and he was 9 lbs 5 oz. I gained 38 lbs during the pregnany. Good news is it was an easy vaginal birth (I did have an epidural)

I measured ahead most of my pregnancy which concerned me because I was 8lbs8 and DH was 10lbs but LO ended up being 8lbs 5oz at 41w2d.

My weight gain wasn't bad at 20lbs for the pregnancy but I think it was due to my short torso and LO being 22 inches long so he had nowhere to go but out, which will make for a larger fundal height. I would take their estimations with a bit of a grain of salt because there is definitely a margin of error when estimating!

My LO was 4lb 1oz at 29 weeks and he ended up being 8lb 13oz at birth (a week early). I had GD though, so that was definitely a factor. I don't think mom's weight gain necessarily means anything though, because I only gained 24lbs by the end.

I gained 43 lbs with my first, and she was 6 lbs, 10 oz when I delivered at 39 weeks.

I did gain my weight all "wrong" though--gained something like 17 lbs in the first tri, 20 lbs in the second tri, and then only 6 lbs in the final tri--some weeks I would lose weight. This was because I was super sick, but on meds and not throwing up--and I became basically immobile for 4 months. Then finally, the last tri I could eat normally and return to my somewhat active lifestyle.

No idea how that affects baby's weight or if there is a correlation.

@FliegepilzHut: I can't speak to measuring that large at beginning of 3rd trimester (28 weeks, measured 60th percentile); however, I can say, I have actually gained a little more weight than you (despite eating what I consider to be pretty responsibly), so I don't really believe mother's weight gain in 2nd to 3rd trimester equates with big baby or not. Also, DH and I were big babies, and this one is on track to be more average. I think it must be other things influencing baby's size, many of which might be outside of your control. I do think that people who gain like 100 lbs and eat tons of shit would have bigger babies, but it sounds like in your case, your bigger baby doesn't have much to do with how you are eating or your weight gain.

DH, baby, and I went for a follow-up ultrasound at 29+5 to check on a minor kidney abnormality detected at our anatomy scan (looked fine now). Baby has been measuring "ahead" since pretty early on...but now is measuring about 1.5weeks ahead (or put another way ~90th%-ile for weight at nearly 4lbs), although I know my dates are good (IVF). I had gained about 25lbs at that appt, mostly during the 2nd trimester...probably on track to gain 35+...and my GTT was fine.

I think I'm eating very responsibly (though we're getting ready to go on vacation!) and contrary to what I would have thought, 2nd and 3rd trimester weight gain may not heavily influence a baby's size (based on a study I just glanced at online)... :silly:

Has anyone been in a similar situation? How big did your baby end up being at or near term? I'm hoping to have an unmedicated birth, but feeling a little anxious that this little boy may be HUGE! :meh:

DH was 8 lbs 13 oz and I was a 7 lb 5 oz baby...
