We didn't use our video monitor often. I mostly liked it when she was a newborn and sleeping so I could take my time
In the shower and not jump out at every phantom cry.

We had one for LO 1 that we used after she moved out of our room at 6 months. But it broke when she was a year, and we didn't bother buying a new one for her or LO 2 (who is still in our room). But we visited my family over Thanksgiving and I couldn't hear LOs cries AT ALL from the back room to the rest of the house (my mom's house is much larger than our condo), so if I had a bigger house, I would 100% have something.

Once ours broke, we never got another one. Never had an issue. If I don't here him, I get a sense that DS is up.

Didn't have one for LO1 bc we were in a town home with an incredibly huge masters so the crib was in our room. Even when I was downstairs and she was upstairs, i could pretty much hear her.

Now we are in a bigger house and I have a toddler who makes a lot of noise. LO2 will be going into nursery which is pretty far from the masters. I'm contemplating getting one

We have a video monitor which I really really like having. But we actually don't need the sound part at all since we can hear her from every part of the condo. We do have a cheap audio one for travel when sometimes we actually are out of ear shot.

I don't *need* the video but I love having it. Looking at a new one for baby 2.

Friends gave us their old audio monitor, but we've only used it if we were out of earshot, which is rare -- a few times when we were in the basement for a long period of time or grilling dinner outside if the weather was nice. We can always hear her without it if we're on the main floor of the house.

We didn't use one for either of our kids. With the way our house is laid out you can hear a crying baby from any room up stairs or down stairs!

We have a small house, so we'd hear stuff from anywhere. But more pertinently, DS never slept in a separate room. Even now, he has his own bed, but it's in our bedroom.

We never used one until DD2 was born and someone gave us a video/audio monitor! We then plugged it in to DD1's room. Because DD2 still sleeps in our room so she doesn't need it. I can't believe we never used one before! I mean, we didn't really NEED it, we could always hear her, but it's fun to watch her sing and play in her room now.

We have a small house so I don't use mine once I'm in bed. I use it during naps when I'm in the far part of the house or after the kids go down if I'm on the patio or watching tv.

We used an audio only for about the first 6-7 months only because we kept his door closed to keep the cats out. When summer came we started keeping his door open when we went to bed and didn't really need the monitor anymore.

The monitor was mostly used during naps on the weekend. We could be in the backyard and still hear him if he woke up.

It was on our to-buy list but then LO came early, and we never got around to it. Definitely didn't need it after all, as we could always hear LO but I still think we will get one for next LO when the time comes - I had my eye on a video one so will probably try get something similar then.

I didn't have one for my oldest until she was closer to a year old. I was so sensitive to her cries, I would wake up with the tiniest sound from her! I definitely liked having one, but it was certainly not necessary.

We used to have a video monitor, and it broke on us so we just replaced it with a basic audio monitor. Honestly I don't think it is even plugged in. She's only a few doors down, and I can hear her immediately through the night, it's not necessary.

Anyone skip the monitor or realize it wasn't as necessary as you thought?
