We just got the DX8 after my son broke our previous one. We had a Summer Infant one for 2 years that worked well... I've heard mixed reviews on the dependability but ours worked great. In researching a new one, I read multiple reviews about the Motorola monitors seem to be made more cheaply now and are not as good of quality as they once were. Our decision came down to the Infant Optics or a Samsung. Both had good reviews! So maybe go Samsung? The infant optics one was cheaper so that is what we went with. (We will also need to add a second camera when baby comes next year and that will be cheaper too).

Do you have a baby store that carries monitors? We went to BuyBuyBaby and turned on and played with a lot of the monitors. That helped too!

I have this one which seems like the one your mentioning.
https://www.amazon.com/Infant-Optics-DXR-8-Monitor-Interchangeable/dp/B00ECHYTBI/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1476756425&sr=8-1&keywords=infant+optics+baby+monitor

I got it because of all the good reviews. We have been mostly happy with it. My only complaint is that occasionally the screen will go blank saying its out of range when I have lived in a really small apartment. I am moving to a bigger home soon so I am hoping its not a problem. The tilt and zoom is great, the night vision is good, the day vision is ok. The zooming isn't super helpful, it isn't that clear to really make a different (like if you want to monitor for breathing) . I never tried the other lens it came with though so maybe that would have helped.

I don't know if mine is like the one you mentioned, but we have the Motorola MBP853. We like it. I really wanted a separate patent unit, but it has a crappy battery life if you leave the screen on the whole time so we put the screen on until she falls asleep and then just have noise and check in visually when we want to. It won't last the whole night without dying, even with the screen off, and it starts loudly and annoyingly beeping when the battery dies at about 4 in the morning so it needs plugging in if you plan to use it overnight. We didn't need it overnight until 6 months when she moved to hed to her own room so we didn't know about the battery life until then. I think around 7/8 months I stopped keeping it on overnight because little snuffling noises would wake me up and I would just turn it on to check when I woke up at night. Now I have the parent unit and my phone beside my bed and I can turn them on quickly to spy her and then I just turn them off. When she was young I just had to plug it in a lot because I kept the screen on. It has a pretty decent sized screen too.

It has pan, tilt, zoom, temperature (which I rely on) speaker for baby, night vision, and music. It also has wifi for connecting to iPads and phones with the Hubble app which is great I think. My phone battery life is way better than the parent unit and I can check on her when we're out at night and there's a babysitter.

I never use the music because it's quite loud. It also has coloured lights on top that light up to indicate volume level of the baby if you turn off the speaker and video which I find really handy. You can watch it to see the intensity of crying decrease or increase.

The camera itself has a little blue light on it that turns blue when it is connected to wifi and red when it isn't (I think). I found that light really annoyingly bright in a pitch black room so I covered it with a sticker.

We got it at Best Buy on sale for $50 off I think. It's sort of pricey. I'm in Canada.

We took it to a friend's house when they watched our daughter and they liked it and found the range good for their house so they're planning on getting one too.

It's not available in Canada, so I want to see if I can source a similar video monitor.

Something with decent night vision, large screen, pan/tilt/zoom, and preferably a temperature reading (our house is very inconsistent with heat/cold temperatures).

Recommendations?

I'm not picky about wifi/non-wifi.
