Motorola MBP36. Love it! Night vision is great, sound is great. No complaints at all. I love that you can add cameras to it as well.

@Cole: yup, I just leave it on so it's just like a parent monitor. The app is free and available on Android and Apple phones. DH and I both have it on our phones. Which takes care of the problem you have with a lot of traditional baby monitors with wanting more than one parent unit and not having that option.

I also love that I can turn the monitor on and off via my phone!

@regberadaisy: Thanks so much! That sounds like it could work well for us. Our house is set up in a way that if a baby were crying loudly in the nursery I could hear it from anywhere else except in the basement doing laundry so a delay isn't a huge deal. It's nice to know you can leave the app open at night, that actually takes care of a lot of my concern. I appreciate the response!

@Cole: the camera itself stays plugged in so battery life for that isn't an issue. But I guess depending on room layout can be a nuisance. I've had consecutive motion and noise notifications sent to me in under 30 minutes, I believe.
If LO is napping then I leave my phone on the app. But if I need to use it I find the notifications helpful. I haven't found the app particularly battery draining? I have a S4 and it doesn't really hold a charge well! When it's nighttime and we are sleeping I leave the app on and my phone charged in because I use it through the night when nursing LO 2.

My one complaint will be I've noticed sometimes when I have the app open it won't send me a notification. But I wonder if this because wel, I have the app open! Lol
There is also probably like a 30 second delay on the notifications so it's not inStantaneous.

I've been prowling eBay for a second one!

@Boheme: Did you just call customer service and they replaced it for you? Or did you have to go back to the store you bought it from? A friend has a crappy Summer Infant that she was going to throw away, but I'm hoping they can replace it!

We have the same Motorola that others have posted. Luckily, we were gifted it at my shower and it came with two cameras. We use one for C's room and one for H's room. You can set the monitor on one camera or have it scan through all cameras (up to 4) for about 10 seconds each.

I didn't want a wifi monitor because we don't leave the house often when the kids are asleep, and if we do, it's for a date night... and I don't want to be checking the monitor!

@regberadaisy: we have that one but are on the fence about swapping it for something else before baby arrives. Have you been bothered by not being able to keep it on in a way that you can hear it all the time? How does it do with battery life on whatever devices you use with it? Are the push alerts/texts useful? My husband said he thought he read they will send one and then won't send one again for thirty minutes after that which kind of worries me. Sorry for the interrogation, we really like certain elements of it but aren't sure about done of the practical things.

Motorola - I bought the two camera system from the start because we knew eventually we'd have two kids. In came in handy anyway because we set up the camera in our bedroom too. So if he fell asleep in there we could still keep an eye on him. I will say the battery died pretty quick. DH ordered a new one which helped.

Just started using dropcam pro and and we're in love. They use the same technology as banks do for privacy so I'm not worried.
DH works nights often so he loves being able to see LO fall asleep at night. :)
I especially love wide angle of the camera. From her Bookcase I can see the whole bedroom and zoom in and out.

If privacy is a concern there's been stories of regular camera like Motorola and summer infant crossing signals too. So no technology is 100% safe.

I use a foscam camera. It's an IP camera. But the hacking happens because it comes with a pre-set password like password or abc123 and no one bothers to change it once they've set it up. If you change your pw to something safe, you'll be fine. I like it bc I can check on her on my phone from anywhere. Plus i can set up multiple cameras all connected to my phone.

we have a foscam and i love it. it was a huge pain in the a$$ to set up, but once it was set, it was ready to go. we can see her if we're traveling (one of us is away from home often) and we have it on the computer, ipad and iphones.

We use the iBaby, which runs off of wifi, and I looooove it. I really enjoy being able to check in on his if we're out for the evening or away for the night. Just gives me peace of mind. We have a password on our wifi and on the monitor software, so I'm not too worried about hackers.

We had a Summer Infant video monitor that was gifted to us, but that thing is a piece of crap. We use it when we travel, but it doesn't work half of the time.

We have a basic summer infant video monitor- safe sight. It's fine but I wish I had done a little more research. The night vision and sound are fine but it doesn't pan or adjust remotely and you cannot talk through it (though I have never missed that feature). You can buy another camera for it for when we have a second but the extra camera cost nearly as much as the monitor. And the signal goes decently far but I wonder if others go further. It's fine but I feel like there are others that may be better.

There have been a handful of times that I would like to see her on my phone but not often ad always for curiosity, not necessity.

We have a Motorola video monitor (http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-MBP36-Wireless-3-5-Inch-Infrared/dp/B004VL2VRO/).

I like it a lot and one of the things I really like about it (that I didn't even think about beforehand, but now I'm glad I have this monitor) is that I can add a second video camera to it and use the same monitor/screen to view both cameras. This is great for when baby #2 arrives!

This camera has good night vision, sound, video, ability to talk through the camera, ability to adjust the camera from the monitor, etc. It really has everything we could want or need. And the fact that it doesn't use wifi means I don't have to worry about other people hacking in and seeing my baby.

Xander's in daycare, so there's really not a lot of times where he's at home and we're not that the ability to see him on my phone would come in handy. Maybe the few times we go out and someone is babysitting? But it's usually my mom, who I completely trust, so I don't feel the need to check up on him when I'm not there.

ETA: The con: it's expensive. :( I waited to have my completion coupon from my registry before ordering it!

Baby monitors... what kind have worked well for you? One of my friends uses an IP camera and really likes it and so I thought we would go that route... but I've heard those scary stories on the news of crazy people hacking into the system (not sure how it works technically) and watching your kids?!

With the IP cam, I like the idea that you can watch your kid on your smart phone even when we're not at home, and not have to have a separate screen/monitor. But not sure if a regular baby monitor is better. Links/brands/models appreciated, thanks!
