I love this article!
LO's name peaked in the early 2000s and now is on the decline which I love. I picked it because it was classic/pretty, and NOT an Emma or Sophia (I love those two names but too many people have them)

According to Name Voyager, LO's name peaked in the 1930's! I think her name falls under the a little weird but not too weird category. Some people do a double-take when they hear her name but a lot of people like it or love it.

I have a 1970s fad name that I hated for a long time but now I'm okay with it.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: that would be nice! It's becoming more and more common now I think. I like it being well known, but wouldn't like her being 1 of 5 girls with the same name at school.

I love this article, it really kicked off our naming extravaganza with my husband a few weeks ago. I'm a total nerd for infographics ;)

Our only goal is to stay out of the top 50, but like the article says- who's to say it won't get an upswing in popularity in the future? I think that's what will happen with our potential name for #2.

My husband has a fad name and I have an old lady name for what it's worth!

Ok, so not preggo yet but I've had my girl baby names decided for a while, the names are based on family names and I'm paranoid someone in the family will steal them. First name Francesca (I just want a little girl I can call Frankie), from hubs middle name of Francis which he in turn got from his grandfather. Middle name would be Othelie which was my great grandmothers name. It's the name my mum wanted for me but my dad refused. I would have loved it, my actual name was so common and boring in Norway. Francesca kind of looks like it's starting the witches hat downturn, Othelie is nowhere to be found so I guess that makes me camp 2 and 3? Nothing is set in stone regarding boys names but hubs wants Kain (his great granma's maiden name) and I want to add something Norwegian in there (I'm thinking Erik since my maiden name is Eriksen, or Bear because my dad's name is Bjørn which is the Norwegian name for bear) the last one might be a bit too out there though we'll see.

Hubs keeps joking if we ever had twin boys we could name them Kain and Abel

My name is such a sharp witches had-- falls under the names starting with CR/KR. I went to school with lots of other people with similar or same names.

C's name falls under the great-grandmother type name, but it's still not that popular. But not weird. Yup, we are category 3 and pat ourselves on the back for our interesting but not weird name :)

This is interesting! My own name looks like it may have become a "fad", but has peaked & is as popular now as in the 80s when I was born. My son's name has never ever been in the 1,000, but it starts with F so it's for old people :)

@googly-eyes: ahh what did you call her? All of our names end in an "ie" sound--so it would sound weird now if we had another LO and didn't follow the pattern!

We just liked it. It looks like half a witch hat with the popularity peak at the beginning of whenever they started tracking (1880 I think it was?)
@illumina: We were SO close to naming lo Sophie. We even had the crib letters and everything. Then at the last minute went back to a name we liked earlier!

Someone posted this a few weeks ago, and I thought it was interesting but I'll make the same point here that I made there:

I think it is unfair to call a name a fad just because it is enjoying or did enjoy a peak of popularity. I think a lot of the currently popular names-- the sophias and emmas and williams and alexanders are timeless names that happen to be super popular right now.

A fad name, in my opinion, is one that was previously almost unknown/unused and suddenly shot into popularity. Think your Maddisons and Addisons and Aidens and Jaydens.

I love LO's name! It is popular in other countries but not US and I feel good about it. It is beautiful and stands out... like her! However... it is clear to me that it causes others confusion. There are several ways to pronounce it (in a variety of dialects across europe) and this really seems to stump people.

Lots of fun graphs in that post. My name is mentioned several times as being a fad name of the past and future old lady name :) We chose a traditional name for DD because we liked the options for nicknames and common spelling. My maiden name was hard for people to pronounce and spell, and I didn't want DD to have to deal with the same thing.

My LO's name is mountain range-ish and it is at its peak right now but still hasnt' cracked then top 200. It's kind of different, but not really. People, for the most part, have heard of the name before but don't know anyone with the name. We love it and we can definitely picture a successful man in a suit and tie with our LO's name.

I have a feeling my LOs name will end up being a fad name as it looks like the beginning if a witches hat now. My own name looks like a mountain range, lol.

Even though I purposely picked a common name with a traditional spelling, according to this guy I'm in the third category of parents since it wasn't a top 20 name but is still in the top 1,000. =)
