@Mrsdaredevil: I do like that site a lot! One of the books that I have found most useful so far was the "Baby Name Wizard.". I like how it groups the names into styles and "families" and gives suggestions for siblings.

@Jholler25: I know that feeling! It's almost like I'm obsessing over it when it should be a really natural and easy process! I feel that pain now!

@Hilsy85: We are also in the same boat whe we would like to name after family members, and are therefore looking for names with specific letters. It's a bit harder since I feel somewhat bound to this (my husband does not, but I feel strongly about naming after a family member, even if just in letter-honor).

Love all of your advice!

We knew we wanted a junior, so that makes things super easy for a boy. For a girl, I'm not sure how we came to the consensus but we both like Elizabeth. No Elizabeths on either side of the family, except maybe very distant.

Our only real criteria was that it be a traditional name that everyone knows how to spell (like David, Thomas, George, William) because we have to spell our last name all the time, and I have to spell out my first name too. The only alternative spelling I've seen is Elisabeth but it's not super common.

We waited until she was born to decide on the perfect name. We had narrowed down our name list to a couple of names and thought she would end up with one of those, but it turned out that she didn't actually look like either of the names - neither fit her at all!

She was born during a pretty amazing and sudden storm that only lasted as long as her delivery, and so we searched after she was born for a name that had something to do with a storm. We ended up with Eleanor, which means "ray of sunlight". It was important to both my husband and I that LO get a name that meant something to us, not just one we picked, so there we are! :)

It took a while! Our #1 name is one that I suggested a while ago that DH was "meh" about, but has since decided that he REALLY likes. We also had a bit of an easier time because we wanted to use either an L or a P to honor my grandmothers, so that helped narrow it down.

I used a lot of those websites and stuff, but I liked when we would find names while watching TV or movies. We would not only discuss our likes/dislikes of various character names, but we would look at the actors' names in the credits at the beginning/end of each show and discuss what we thought of those.

We found our 'winning' name as a character's name actually.

Anything we both agreed on got onto our 'list'. We had about 3 girl and 3 boy names.

Then the day we were about to find out if it was a boy or girl (not team green), just hours before, it felt right to come to a decision for boy and for girl.

DD's name is Caroline Jane. I've always loved Caroline, it was my great grandmother's name, but also because every Caroline I have ever met has been nice...I cant say that about many names! Jane is Husband's grandmother's name.

The only names I wouldn't consider were names that could also be last names-Harper, Bailey, ect. I didn't want my daughter to ever feel like she couldn't date someone because if she got married, she would be "Harper Harper" or "Bailey Bailey". Charlie, Charleigh, Charlee were also out, because I didn't want her to ever be "Charlie Brown".

@Meggo5: Baby name searching made my head explode! We had a perfect boy name, and then found out we were having a girl. We didn't have any hard-care prospects, so I literally spent hours upon hours searching baby name lists on the internet until my eyeballs pretty much fell out. And we still are not 100% on a middle name, but it was so much work to get a first name that we need a break:)

Nameberry.com was my online name bible. I loved the message boards on there and seeing the names people were talking about. I got so many great ideas.

We didn't officially name LO until she is born. we went to the hospital with 3 names picked out and when we saw her we just knew which name she was!!!

C's first name is Charlotte, a name I have loved since I was a kid. Her middle name, June, is DH's grandmother's name.

For our next LO, if it's a boy we are thinking Franklin Joseph. (DH's father passed away and his name was Frank Joseph.) If it's a girl, I'm angling for Caroline or Audrey Josephine. Josephine is my grandmother's name. Caroline would give both our girls the same initials. lol

C didn't have a name until the day she was born. Her name is the one we both ended up liking best after many fights about it. We were watching a movie and there was a character with the name and that's how we started talking about it.

We were team blue and already had a middle name picked out (family name). Then I just made a list of names and went thru them with DH. We picked out our favorites and tried them out a week at a time, so whenever we referred to our baby we would call him by name. Eventually we just determined which name felt the most natural and settled on that one after a couple of months.

DH and I are both teachers, so there were a lot of names that were absolute negatives because of associations with past students.

For our girl name, I saw "Hadley" on TV. I think it was a reality show called Southern Belles and there was a girl named Hadley on it. I fell in love with the name because I'd never heard of it before (its grown in popularity over the past few years but its still out of the top 200 lists). DH is a history buff and apparently there was some company during WWI (maybe?) named "Handley Page," so he really wanted the middle name to be Paige.

For our boy name, I honestly can't remember how I came up with Nathan. We both just really liked it I think. The middle name will be Dean after my dad's middle name.

I love names, so I've looked at a lot of websites, but none really had the "it" factor of the names we've chosen. Probably not really helpful, but maybe it will just pop in your head after hearing it and you'll know? Good luck!

While there are a few names that are in contention right now, I am having some trouble getting fully on board with any one specific name. I thought that I would know the minute I found a name I loved, but that hasn't been as easy as I had hoped. We are team green :)

How did you come up with your "perfect" name? Beyond having one in mind that you knew was "the one," did you find any resources/books helpful?
