We gave our son the name of my in-laws cat, and I don't care at all.</p> <p>The cat technically uses a nickname of my son's name (think Ellie instead of Eleanor as an example) but all of a sudden they're always calling her "Eleanor" instead of the usually used "Ellie" which is annoying.</p> <p>When we named my son, we lived far away, and I didn't even think about it. I still don't care much- it's just a cat and it was my favorite name by far, so why would I let that ruin it? We've had the dog for ten years and he's totally a part of the family, lol. I didn't realize it until after LO was born but LO's name rhymes with and sounds similar to my uncle's dog's name. Whenever we get together someone (often me or DH) ends up calling LO the dog's name. My kid will be around a lot longer than her pet, and it has been my favorite since childhood. So, for a few years, we had a Sadie dog and Sadie baby/kid... Sadie the human is in college now and the dog passed.</p> <p>My sister keeps naming her pets popular names. Would you cross those names out or still use them? It's so frustrating because I've had this particular girl name picked out for over a year and my Aunt just used it on her cat. </p>
