@Rainbow Sprinkles: @tororojo: that's what I thought of too when I saw the other post about your name, Luisa! Made me think of Sound of Music :):)

And agreed - I like Juliette better than Juliet.

I liked Eleanor, gertrude(Gertie), Hattie and Millie for girls but husband veto'd them.

For a boy I liked Miles but our last name is Long. I also like Elton, but it sounded too much like Elton John when said with our last name!

We are only naming Arab names....so there are MANY names(American names) that we would never use or can't use because we're sticking with Arabic names only....But I am IN LOVE with so many American names that it's getting insane. I think it would be weird to have 1+ children with Middle-Eastern names (like our 1st will be) and then a random American name in there....but I am totally considering it in some years down the line.

These are my favorites evvver:
Stella, Luna & Samantha
&

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I think one reason I prefer Juliet is because it's shorter--I just like shorter names! Both are pretty though, you can't go wrong. I have considered going totally Sound of Music on baby names...maybe we'll have a second daughter named Marta? Which is also not common!

@Coco Bee: I haven't heard the name Teagan for a boy (sorry, going back to your original post even though there's been a ton of responses) but it is a very popular girls name here in Australia!

For girls, we loved Amelie, but only the French pronunciation, and knew it would be butchered in English so we decided not to use it. We went with Emily instead, which isn't too far off. I've also always loved Adele but with the singer now, we passed on it.

Boys:
Oliver - DH's cousin used it 3 weeks before our team green baby arrived so we took it off the list
Hamish - pronounced HAY-mish but again would be butchered in the States
Lachlan - too Aussie
Angus - love it but makes me think of yummy steaks
Henry - loved it until I had a Henry as a student, never will I use that name now!
Noah - DH said uhh no [ah]!

Can't remember what else was on our short list!

Alice: This is one of my very favorite names, but my husband's name is Alex and he thinks it'd be weird to have a baby named Alice because the names sound so much alike!

Violet: Our last name sounds like "haze" so if we named a baby Violet, it's only one stepped removed from being a Jimi Hendrix song. Husband vetoed this as well.

Girls: Beatrice (Mr. Jacks no likey), Amelie or Amelia, Josephine (used as a middle name), Zinnia, Zenobia (Mr. really wanted to use a Z, but these are both big names for a little girl to pull off), Zoe (too close to my dog's name), Violet, Marisol, Vivienne (we're not French), Willa, Antonia, Aurelia (too close to Lala's name).

Somebody use these names because they are all awesome!

Boys: Luca, Matteo, Zev, Kenzo, Teague, Elias.

@MediaNaranja: I'm big on names that sound good in either language since both Eng and Span are spoken so much around here! Also, after traveling all over in college, I have come to really appreciate having an easy-to-pronounce name that works well across different languages. I think it is just an easier thing to do for your kid in the long run!

I love the name Sylvie, but DH hated it.
I am in LOVE with the name Honor, but I think that is another DH won't go for.
Also, Cora/Coralie/Coraline were on our short list but I think my cousin is using one of those.
I think Violet and Ruby are cute, but a bit too mainstream for me.
And for boy's names, I don't think there are any we can't use because both of us share the same taste in boy names and I don't think anyone in our family would ever use the ones we like.

@Rachel: hahaha, true! i think we have enough irish around where people would recognize it. i don't even think of it as being that irish, the guy next door to us is named seamus & he's black, so no irish there & hasn't seemed to be a problem for him =) so weird that people have said 'seen' for sean. i'm not a fan of alternative spellings, shawn seems weird to me, probably just because it's not what i'm used to.

Linnea: it's SIL's middle name, plus I don't like how it's pronounced here and it's super popular
Liam: too popular
Ethan: a friend's son's name and we live kind of closeby
Caitlin: the same friend's DD's name! (She has good taste ;D)
Avery: friend's son's name, it was on my short list of girl's names

The hardest for me was Linnea because that was the name I wanted to name our daughter before we even started TTC. It was the flower he showed me when we were just friends - it's when I realized I liked him.
