My LO is 12 weeks and has recently started sleeping in the crib at night, but for naps? Forget about it. She mainly naps on me after falling asleep nursing or in the car. She doesn't really like wraps or carriers either BUT I've figured out that she'll cry and strain for about 5 or 10 minutes and then eventually pass out in it, so maybe you could try to wear him longer even though he's fussing?

My 12 week old only naps when being held or worn in a wrap. So at least we can get out of the house. She is angry when I first put her in the Tula or solly wrap but lots of bouncing or walking outside usually helps. My first didn't nap in her crib until almost 2 (as long as I was nursing her I had to hold her for naps) so I'm not actually that hopeful that my situation will improve... I've never figured out crib naps...

I lived this with my first and it was awful. None of the "tricks" worked and when he did nap, it was super short and took lots of bouncing to get him there. I was most successful with a swaddle, white noise, and bouncing on a yoga ball. Sometimes it helped to push his awake time a bit.

I wish I had advice but I never found a solution. He grew out of it basically. But was never a good long napper until he went to one nap (at 10 months) and at 3 is done napping.

And fwiw, I have a 9 week old who sleeps in the wrap and sometimes the swing and my kid still watches tv all day cause there's just only so much I can do. This too shall pass right? I hope.

I know you said he won't calm down in the carrier, but have you tried using it while he's awake but already calm? Just wondering if maybe he'd like it more if he got used to it. My LO2 doesn't have trouble napping, but just in general, the carrier has been so useful in helping me deal with two children at once.

It does sound like maybe you are starting his naps too early and he is getting frustrated by it. Sometimes I try to put LO2 down too soon and if he doesn't fall asleep within 5-10 min, I usually give up and we try again in a half hour or so.

Edited to add: Even with no trouble getting my little guy to get to sleep, his naps are generally very short. He's been a 45 min guy since he was around 2 months old (he's 4 months now). I think short naps are typical at this stage.

Will he nap in the stroller/car seat? Could you plan a long walk to a local park so he's getting a couple naps to/from? Or a drive to somewhere? My baby is 8 weeks and only naps in the wrap or car seat, and I've got an older daughter too. I just take what I can get nap-wise and figure once she's a bit older we'll work on more independent sleep habits.

@emilye519: Everything is just a phase! That has always been my motto. Some phases may last longer than others... but it will eventually get better. Just do what you have to do and hope for the best.

My younger son is 16 weeks and we had/have a tough time with naps. He still only naps for about 30 minutes at a time. But he goes to bed at 6:30 and stays there until 6:30, usually just a couple wake ups unless he is sick.

He usually up for an hour to an hour and a half but by the time we do that crazy song and dance to get him to sleep it's 2-2.5 hours.

Knock on wood he sleeps well at night, usually goes to bed by 7:30 with a wake up to just be rocked by down an hour later and two wake ups to eat and will sleep until 7:30 am. I don't know why the day is such a mess. Seriously though, I tried for an hour and 15 minutes to get him to nap and he finally fell asleep for 23 minutes. Fml

He'll nap on me, but it's really hard to keep that up with my toddler home. She needs help pottying and supervision and entertainment still. The rocking him until he's out is what's taking so long 😩 I'll keep at it though, it's all just a phase right???

Will he sleep if you hold him? Or if you rock him to sleep and then put him down after he's out? That's what I would do and give up on drowsy but awake until later. What does he do at night?

I know baby sleep if forever changing and once you think you figure it out they change, but I'm losing my mind and don't know what to try next.

DS is 11 weeks old and straight up does not nap. It has been weeks since he has napped longer than 30 minutes and really naps are 5-25 minutes. It takes me usually 25 - 90 minutes of rocking and shushing and patting to get him to sleep. It's completely ridiculous and I have a two year old who basically watches doc mcstuffins 12 hours a day because I'm constantly trying to get the baby to sleep or dealing with a cranky baby because he's only slept 25 minutes all day. I'm trying to do drowsy but awake but he just thrashes around in his swaddle and screams. I try to be really good about watching for his sleepy cues so that he doesn't get overtired but I'm wondering if he is under tired. It doesn't matter where I lay him down crib, bassinet, mamaroo, swing - he hates it all.

By the afternoon he is just inconsolably screaming and we are all miserable. What do I do? We have blackout curtains, white noise, and he doesn't like the wrap or carrier - I can't get him to calm down in them. Am I just SOL?
