Thanks for the support! Unfortunately the baby HATES the car seat so no car naps for us. I can babywear sometimes but it takes a really long time for her to fall asleep and she will only sleep for 20 minutes or so.. She does like the swing but I have to nurse her down and then transfer her to the swing so it's hard to stop the toddler from interfering. Right now baby takes like five naps a day because they are all short, crappy naps... I definitely need to up the white noise!

I use the car and the carrier for the baby. And when we're at home she basically just has crappy naps. The only time she has a decent nap is when my 2.5 year old is asleep.

Mulgkple sources of white noise saved the day for us! We used two Marpecs plus an iPod and that did the trick...

This is my greatest fear. C also needed every crutch there is but I could do it- my life revolved around getting her and keep her asleep. Now I'm clinging to the idea that second babies just sleep wherever whenever...

Also I'm fully expecting the toddler to have way more screen time than I would normally be ok with. Kind of like my first trimester.

@SproutBee: I will rock her to sleep in my arms if my older one is involved in some quiet play (train set, puzzles, etc) and then go into our room to rock her for the last bit and set her down. Or I will baby wear, which puts her to sleep.

My oldest got far more screentime than I'll openly admit when baby sister arrived. Fortunately the baby really loved swing naps for a long time.
Getting to the two naps per day phase made things much easier.
Hang in there!

Not to thread jack, but how do you guys even get your baby to sleep with a toddler in the house? I have a 2 month old and a 27 month old. So far my mom has been here to help, but I'll be on my own after Thanksgiving. The baby still takes 4 naps a day, I'd hate to plop my toddler in front of the iPad that often. But otherwise I have no idea how I'm gonna keep him out of my hair! The baby still needs quite the effort to get to sleep.

@AggieDaze: I haven't tried bribery or a sticker chart, so I'll have to think about that. I don't really think he would respond well to that, but maybe it would be worth a shot..

@Rainbow Sprinkles: thank you :happy:

I'm not there yet (LO2 is less than a week) but I had a super light sleeper in LO1 so I get that part of the struggle.

This is totally hypothetical but could you try to institute some sort of structured quiet play time for LO1 while LO2 naps. Perhaps there are some special toys LO1 only gets to play with during LO2's nap time? Things that encourage quiet time? Or perhaps your Lo would respond to a sticker chart of successful quiet times that turns into a present? Or even a piece of candy at the end of each quiet time where LO1 was quiet for at least a certain amount of LO2's nap time? I use bribery for longer nap times for my 2.5 year old, ie.. "If you sleep until your light turns green, then we can... Go to the park, make cookies, eat a Popsicle, fill in attractive bribe here." It works pretty well and it's almost created a habit/expectation so the bribery doesn't happen every day.

@hilsy85: Thanks, it's nice to know I'm not alone. I so wish I could do screen time sometimes but we don't have TV or any streaming service. I'm keeping it that way so that I'm not tempted to use it a lot, haha. He gets some screen time at daycare so I want to keep it there. Anyway, thanks for the commiseration!

REALLY loud white noise, and screen time while I am putting LO2 down. And he still wakes her up a lot of the time. I struggle with this as well!

I am about to lose it with my 3 mo's naps. First of all, she is a terrible sleeper all the time. Really light sleeper, needs every crutch there is. LO1 was the same way but I could spend all day doing whatever I had to do to get him to sleep. With LO2 I have a crazy 2.5 yo toddler who is always yelling and running around making lots of noise. He honestly doesn't understand be quiet, I don't think its possible for him at this age to sit quietly. The baby is taking TERRIBLE 15 minute naps. I am so frustrated with the situation I just get angry. I mean she will be asleep in another room with white noise and noise from the other side of the house wakes her up.

How does the baby sleep if you have an older LO?!?!? :crying: :sad:
