I'm in the same boat. My lo is 4 months and teething. I bought Nuby Garden Fresh Fruitsicles off amazon and make little milk pops for her. She loves them. It soothes the gums and gets her milk. That and pump/ bottle feed as much as you can. Hang in there. Don't give up! You rock and teething sucks. It messes up all our plans!!

If he's generally happy and havig enough diapers I wouldn't worry too much. When we give our dd a bottle she takes 3-4 oz. I assume that's what she does when nursing too. She probably takes in 25 oz a day but has days where it's less and others where it's more. She's 7 months and 15 lbs. 18 lbs is a good weight for 6 months. As long as he isn't rapidly losing I wouldn't be concerned. It's probably teething or a developmental milestone.

any teething? I think nursing can make the gums hurt worse so sometimes when they're teething they'll go on a bit of a nursing strike. Pump after feedings to keep your supply up though.

do you think it's distraction at all? have you tried nursing in a dark, quiet room?

How long has it been going on?

@Leah: could your lo be working on teeth right now? Have you tried nursing right before and after sleep (or dream feeding)? Sometimes that works because baby isn't "thinking" about nursing and is going by instinct, you could also try some different positions.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the drop in percentiles, it's incredibly common for EBF babies at around the 4-6 month point!

Hang in there, Mama - you're doing great!!!!

Don't worry too much just yet. Pump after feedings to make sure it isn't a supply issue. Is this an on going issue or just the last week or so? I found my son would do this during wonder weeks and then just go right back to normal. Also a drop between 4 and 6 months is not abnormal. My son was failure to thrive and dropped to the .5 percentile.

:( I'm so sorry mama. That must be seriously stressful. Have you tried offering pumped milk out of a bottle? Or maybe a mixture of breast milk & formula?

I hope you figure it out asap!

ETA: also, you mention your LO is 6 months? Is he showing any signs of solid food readiness? Maybe try starting some apple sauce or something?

I am such a mess right now. I've been worried for about a week about how my baby is eating. He has been nursing for a very short period of time and waking up a lot in the night to eat. I thought it might be a supply issue, so I went to investigate further with a lactation consultant. At our visit, baby only took in 3 ounces (after not eating for three hours). We rented a scale from her and determined to monitor what he took in for 24 hrs.

It hasn't been 24 hours yet, but for the entire day, my LO has not had 8 ounces yet. At his last feeding he took 2.4 ounces. My understanding is that babies his age (6 months) eat around 25 ounces or so each day. Another source said feedings should be around 6 to 8 ounces. I am really worried now. I don't think its a supply issue anymore because he just nursed from one side and flat out refused the other even after I offered a few times.

At his last pediatrician visit last week, he weighed 18 pounds and went from the 70th percentile to the 50th percentile. I am so worried now.
