You definitely need a passport for air travel between the US and Canada! Try to get one expedited and enjoy Montreal!

You will definitely need passports. Bring your flight booking information to an in person application and you should be able to get it expedited but it will cost more.

Awww such a shame that it's so expensive! But yes, I think you will need one. I was looking into this the other day (we have to cross the border into the US to reapply for work permits on the way back into Canada) and I read that sometimes when travelling by car they will accept long form birth certificate, but usually they need a passport. By air I think it's definitely a passport. Hope you get it sorted and that you have a fabulous trip - Montreal rocks!

:( this is stressful! I'm Canadian and under the impression that even infants need passports to get into the States so if you have problems it would probably be in your re entry. All of my friends who have traveled to the US needed a passport for their babies. I would expedite the passport so that you don't have to worry about it during your trip. Good luck and have fun! I love mtrl :-)

The law changed last year where if you are traveling to Canada or Mexico you need a passport--birth certificate won't do anymore.

You can get a passport same day if you can show proof of travel plans and are able to apply in person. My sister applied for hers at 9am when they opened and was issued it by 4pm the same day. It could be worth a shot!

I'm about 99% sure you need a passport these days. I believe the law changed a few years ago and all children, no matter their age must have a passport for all international travel. Go with what the US and Canada govt websites say. I would suck it up and pay for the expedited service. Or cancel the trip.

Ladies! I need your advice! My husband did a bonehead thing and booked tickets for our Montreal trip without mentioning or booking for little Tor's lap seat. I noticed this earlier today and called the airline. At first the woman told me Tor would need a passport! I freaked out because we fly out on Friday the 17th and I asked her to double check with her supervisor. She came back after several minutes and told me that actually we were fine with his birth certificate. I asked her again and once again she said we were fine as did another woman at United. Well I went to the Canada and US government sites and both are saying that when it comes to flying if we want re entry into the US we will need a passport for our baby. I am so freaked and wondering if I should try to expedite one for him (300 bucks) or if we should just show up and hope for the best. I am losing sleep and so stressed about this. Been looking forward to this trip for months and it will be during our wedding anniversary. I know he did t mean anything but I am so annoyed at my hubby!!!! What would you do?
