Every room of our house that we use is baby proofed to the extent necessary/possible. We sort of did it slowly as she learned new things. Cabinets are all locked. Drawers that she isn't allowed in are locked (other drawers we just let her tear up). We moved all decorating stuff off of all end tables because our LO was obsessed with pulling stuff down on her head. All staircases have baby gates. We did not do outlet covers because we live in a newer house that has "kid safe" outlets already. We secured tall/heavy furniture to the wall (she is definitely a climber!). We went around and made sure to pick up anything that was a choking hazard (like small cat toys that were laying around, caps from my makeup stuff she always pulls off the bathroom counter bc she is so damn tall).

Thats about as much as we can do. She still can/does pull some furniture over on herself (like chairs, smaller end tables) but there isn't anything I can do about that except keep telling her not to. She is climbing on the couch now and sometimes she falls on her head and there isn't anything I can do about that except tell her not to/try to catch her before she actually hits the ground. She still can/does pull books off the bookshelf onto herself but there it won't kill her.

My basic goal for baby proofing was making it so that I didn't have to follow her around 24/7 to keep her from killing herself and I put away enough stuff that she didn't make a huge mess (of my stuff) constantly and rooms were safe enough that I could leave the room for maybe 1 minute to pee, switch clothes/etc. There are still plenty of ways she could hurt herself because she is a wild child, but I don't think she could actually kill herself in under a minute in any of the rooms we live in so I consider it a success.

we need to babyproof! Her nursery is already a "safe space" (other than i still need to secure the dresser and bookshelves to the wall... she's never spent time in there though, still sleeps in the PnP next to our bed and is immoble)

We're also going to have a playroom that is a safe space, but will have to do things like put up a gate at the stairs and secure furniture to the walls

and on the main floor we need to babyproof the fireplaces, cabinets, and make sure furniture is secured. We also need to get out of the habit of leaving cords around (chargers, etc). And we have some plants with long branches that she could pull down onto her head if she grabbed them... things like that..

I guess i want to consider the whole house a safe space so that means baby-proofing lots of areas.

Did you ever actually baby proof your house?

I was reading something recently about creating a safe environment for a child where they spend all their time instead of baby proofing a whole house. Did you just create a safe space for your child? Or did you actually go through your whole house and try to make everything safe?

We let our kids mostly roam around the house. We close most doors so the majority of the time is spent in the living/dining/kitchen areas. So we had to do some things like lock cabinets. We also have outlet covers throughout the house. Other than that, we haven't done too much baby proofing.
