@lemondrop: Thank you! I checked it out at my friend's house today. Seems pretty secure! And I actually thought it was one of the best looking solutions if I can get a matching color!

@T.H.O.U.: Thanks for the link! Amazing! Too bad I have a non-handy hubby. I'd have to hire someone to make that!

@TurtleDoves: Thanks! It looks really similar to the Babydan. I'm thinking the same thing about the color, but I have no choice since they won't ship the other choices. DH's telling me it's not like it'll be here forever. Maybe I can paint the thing myself. Hmmm ... hehe.

@shopaholic: ours stick just fine, but I was very careful about prepping the surface with alcohol, letting it dry, then applying them with the stickers on both inside surfaces. We also have one on a tile step in an extremely high traffic area, and it has struck with no problems. I don't mind how they look, they keep him safe, so it doesn't bother me.

@SugarplumsMom: I actually saw one at Sam's Clud a few days ago. I need to go back and get it before its gone. It came in black or white. I figure, if it doesn't look good, it'll irritate me every time I see it, so I'm going to pay whatever it imposts to get white hhaha. You're overseas right? Let me google for you:

@Mrs. Confetti: @Mrs. Yoyo: OK - I just Googled it, and I like the plexiglass solution for the actual fireplace once she starts crawling! Just got to figure out about the hearth. Ah... design vs. practicality....

Oh! I should have specified, we don't use our fireplace. I am mostly concerned about her bonking her head on the edges/corners, or flat out on the marble.

@Mrs. Confetti: @Mrs. Yoyo: I'd love to see those examples!

@SugarplumsMom: @scg00387: I think those gates would take up too much room in our cramped space as it is.

@hilsy85: @lemondrop: So the foam bumpers are just so-so? Let me know if you figure out something better!

We built a frame with cheap wood and covered it in foam and fabric. We still have it on now that's she's two. The details are on my blog that I can send you if you want.

We don't use our fireplace, so we just used those same exact foam bumpers. They are great! If you plan to actually use the fireplace, I would put up a gate.

@TurtleDoves: Let me know how it works out for you. I'm now looking at the Babydan Babyden since it's bigger (6 segments) and according to the description, I can use it or a fireplace guard. Although I'll have to buy the wall mounts separate. But the only color they have available for free shipping is in silver and I'm not too excited about it.

My neighbor put up plexiglass with velcro to cover the fireplace itself once her LO was old enough to safely navigate the step up....I know that isn't your issue now, but once LO is older, it might be. I would just work on teaching LO how to safety crawl up and down the step as soon as you can...again, not an immediate solution, but eventually...

Ours is higher up so it was more of a concern for me ; we out a giant gate around it that now doubles as a toy/cruising tool for LO. And a catch all for hiding other non baby stuff.

@SugarplumsMom: we're getting this too (ours will be white)

We want to be able to still turn it on and him not burn himself (well, I'm not sure it gets *that* hot..). Anyways-- we can use that hate type thing in various situations and rooms so, I think it is a great thing to have around.
So far, I've only BP our cabinets and electric sockets. We have gates at the stairs (top and bottom).

We have those same foam protector corner things on the corners of our fireplace...we also have the long foam pieces but they don't stay on very well. Also, it looks pretty unattractive...Our bigger problem is that LO keeps trying to crawl into the fireplace! We need to get a screen to prevent that. We may end up getting a playpen type thing to keep LO in when he's in the living room.

I'll try to remember to take a picture in the morning but I bought some foam at a foam store and covered the top, sides and bottom of our brick hearth.

I bought some fabric to make a cover so that everything can Velcro together but I haven't finished up the project yet. It doesn't look amazing but I think it looks acceptable.

We're trying to figure this out ourselves. We have an antique wood burning stove (it looks like it's from a witch's hut) that's free standing, so we'd have to surround the whole thing.

We're looking at this, but I don't think it's big enough in our case.

Tell me (or better yet, SHOW me) how did you baby-proof your fireplace? Our main play area for K is in our small living room. The fireplace hearth is pretty low and all marble. There is a built-in mesh screen. The only thing I could figure out so far is this kind of foam edge-protector. Other ideas I've seen online don't seem very secure. I'm sure any toddler can easily pull away cushions and blankets... I don't want something obviously hideous too. Our fireplace is literally directly across from our front door and the first thing you see. Any other ideas?

Also, if you have older LOs, how long did you keep it baby-proofed? I'm quite sure my siblings and I all ate it bad multiple times on my parents' brick fireplace, and not just when we were little-little...

* My current "baby-proofing-bumper" system for now. *
