How old is your LO? I know right around 5ish months, my LO started doing similar things because she was easily distracted by her surroundings (she wanted to know what was going on around her at all times). It resolved itself (mostly) within a couple of weeks. When she did that, I would unlatch her and tell her *to be gentle with mama - that hurts*.

My 7 week old does this too. I second the lots of burping like @hilsy85: said. If I pull her off and burp her when she does it, Im usually rewarded with a huge burp!

My LO did this for a while. I would hold her in the the cradle hold so one of her arms was tucked under her body and then I would hold her other hand (she would usually just hold onto my thumb).

I had a similar issue and made this thread : http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/lo-pulling-at-breast-while-nursing

What helped us was lots of burping (before, during, and after nursing) and leaning back while nursing bc I had a strong letdown.

You can pinch her little nose and that should make her let go. That's what I do when my babe pulls.

@shopaholic: She's only 7 weeks, so I'm not sure a lovey/necklace would work in our case. I don't think she "gets" them yet.

@hergreenapples: how old is your LO? Subbing because I'd like tips too. K has started to kick and tug My shirt or bat at the boobs. I like the lovey/ necklace idea if only mine would try to hold one soon!

What about using a nursing necklace or something like that for her to play with instead of your breast?

DD has started this new thing in the past little while (a couple weeks, but it's gotten much worse over the last couple days) where she pulls a LOT at the breast. She pulls and twists with her head and pushes the boob away with her hands while still latched - OUCH!

This usually happens about 10 minutes into a feed, so I suspect it has to do with the flow slowing down. I asked my LC about it a couple weeks ago and she advised to switch sides when this happens. I've been doing that, but now it seems to happen so frequently and aggressively that I feel like I will be constantly switching sides. I've been concerend that it's resulting in her not getting enough, but she's still producing plenty of diapers, so evidently that's not an issue...I hope.

Any other tips on how to deal with this? If I switch sides once and she starts doing it again on the second side, should I switch back to the first side? Also, typically I pump a couple times a day; I would usually feed on one side and then pump the other side....how should I manage pumping now?
